Riley and Braxton

Riley is a one hundred and eight pound lab mix, that's eight years old! He joined our Large Dog Program with a little bit of curiosity, and pep in his step!

He may be an older dog- but that certainly doesn't slow him down. We had no worry that this guy would pass his assessment with flying colors, once we started picking up on his "Dog Speak"
Notice how he kept trying to Muzzle Punch Diego? The reason he was doing that is because he was trying to get his attention. He wanted to play and burn some energy! Near the end of the video, you'll also see Riley point his Behind towards Diego. In the Dog World, sniffing butts is the proper and expected way to greet one another.

We not only got his "Dog Speak" on video, but we also got him playing with some of his new friends.

Check him out!

We welcomed another Boxer to The Fort this morning as well, Braxton! This guy isn't too far behind Riley- he's only two years younger than him at six years old, and weighs 70 pounds.

He had an overall good day with us. We enjoyed watching him check out his new play area, as he was trying to discover what this place is all about. He mingled, sniffed some butts, and wagged his tail! With time, we can certainly see Braxton making lots of friends here. He seemed to get more and more comfortable with us, by the minute!

Both dogs can come back whenever they please.
Take care,

Penelope

Penelope was yesterday's high-spirited assessment. She's a one year old, fifty one pound Boxer. This gorgeous girl fit in with our Large Dog Program perfectly... This honestly didn't surprise me though because her "dog cousin", Tucker, already comes to The Fort and has been for years. It probably feels like home to her already!

She mingled with the pack, and made friends instantly. One of the dogs she ended up playing with quite a bit was another boxer like herself, Maximus . Check them out romping around below!

Have a good rest of your night,
~Shaunte'

Eva & Maximus

Eva joined our Small Dog Program yesterday morning with grace and ease. She's a three year old, Maltese/ Yorkshire Terrier/Poodle Mix that weighs ten pounds. When she first entered her new play area, she romped around with the other dogs, scoped out her surroundings, and discovered one of our cool benches where she then jumped onto and hung out; looking all pretty. I think her name definitely suits her. She's just about as graceful as the famous, Ava Gardner herself.

This morning we welcomed Maximus into The Fort for his assessment. He's a very handsome one in a half year old Boxer that weighs forty five pounds. We noticed right away that this one is a social butterfly. He had a lot of fun meeting and greeting his new dog friends, and played quite a bit. He fit right in with all the other dogs in our Large Dog Program just as if he was the missing puzzle piece.

Both Eva and Max are more than welcome to come back whenever they please.

Have a wonderful night.

Happy Memorial Day!

Today we welcomed Pablo to The Fort. He is a 1 year old, 65 pound, black/white Pit Bull mix. Pablo did great for his first day, he came in this morning full of energy and ready to play.

In this clip Pablo is playing with Bella the boxer in the large roll. Also in this clip are Bonnie the Labrador Retriever Mix and Diego the Golden Retriever.

Have a great Memorial Day,
- Gary

Please welcome Kaylee, Jupiter & Rainier!

Yesterday we Assessed Kaylee, she is a nine month old, about twenty-five pound, Labrador Retriever and Boxer Mix. Now Kaylee is a very sweet, yet very shy and timid canine. She is here at The Fort, to socialize, play, and gain some confidence. We escorted Kaylee to the Medium Play Area, where she was quite unsure about what she was here to do... However, upon meeting some other canines, Kaylee quickly blossomed, it was an awesome surprise! What she lacks in confidence with humans and new surroundings, she makes up for ten-fold, in dog-play and socialization. Kaylee sprinted around, and played hard with several different members of the Medium Roll's pack. It was a pleasure to see. We believe that Fort Fido can do a lot for Kaylee's confidence and well being. Given time and consistency, we know she can become an even better, and less timid adult dog.

Here, Kaylee has some fun sprinting around with Winnie and Louis, good times!

Today we had a doubleheader of Assessments. Meet Jupiter and Rainier!

Jupiter is a energy-filled, eight month old, fifty-five pound, Blue Merle, Australian Shepherd.

Rainier is a calm, eight month old, fifty pound, Black and White Colored, Australian Shepherd.

Jupiter and Rainier are the type of dogs that would be able to handle both our Medium and Large Play areas. To warm them up to our place, we had them try the Medium Roll on for size. One therein, the two "dog brothers" explored their new surroundings merrily. After a few minutes, it was time to begin to meet the pack. Both Jupiter and Rainier did so properly, and with gusto! They befriended several of the pack members within minutes. They took a real liking to Louis, Shiva, and Otis, among others. We were thrilled to see these two high-energy herding dogs, fit in so well, play, and be liked by the pack so quickly. We have a feeling that We'll be seeing these two dudes again for sure!

In the clips that follow, you can spot both Jupiter and Rainier enjoying themselves.

All of our newcomers have done a real swell job the last couple of days, rock on! Welcome to Fido's Pack.

Have a great weekend and a nice Holiday,

-Grant
P.S. There is still room tonight, and this weekend, for Overnight Boarding. If you need to get your dog in, give us a call and reserve your spot.

Bold Baxter!

Meet Baxter! He is a one year old, sixty-two pound, brown and white colored, Boxer Mix, that had his assessment today at Fort Fido. Baxter entered our Big Roll Play Area cautious, yet curious. He wasn't quite sure what he was here to do at first. That was until he started to meet the other canines. Right away, Baxter seemed to hit it off with Jackson and Jesse. As the pack grew in size, he continued to roll about enjoying the day here at The Fort with the fellow pack members. Baxter had an extremely great time playing with Tucker as seen in the videos below.
Below, Baxter rumbles about with Tucker, and Lucy.

We are excited to see Baxter return and make even more great friends here at Fort Fido.
Have an awesome day and stay dry,
- Zach

Jack McCoy

Today the Fort Fido crew got the chance to assess the good-looking-livewire, Jack McCoy. Jack is a fun, three month old, twenty-four pound, Boxer and GSD Mix. Jack was escorted to the Medium Roll, where he would spend his day with dogs of a similar size and play-style. Although he had a bit of trepidation at first, about being "alone", Jack did fine, his separation anxiety easing, as soon as other dogs arrived. Jack is a smart young pup that enjoys the company of other canines, with Mac and Max being his favorite new dog-pals today. Jack is learning how to socialize properly and play fair... So far so good, he is well on his way to becoming a healthy and well rounded adult canine. Because he is quite excitable and cute, Jack requires strong leadership and routine to be at his best. Lucky for him, his owners want to, and are, doing right by him. He is most welcome to The Fort, and we hope that he continues to thrive here. Puppies can get a lot out of Dog Daycare, especially given time and consistency. Well done today Jack, see ya around!

Here is a tiny little taste of "Jack McCoy" in action this morning.

Take it easy,

Logan lives it up!

We had a real winner show up for their assessment this morning. Meet Logan! He is a cool, seven month old, brindle, Boxer. Logan tried our Medium Roll on for size and thrived. Once there, he instantly took to greeting the pack that arrived. "Play" was the name of Logan's game, and that he did! Logan jumped, ran, ducked and dove all over the play area, with several different playmates. He speaks fairly good "Dog" for a pup, so making buddies was easy for him. Logan really enjoyed Oliver and Zoey's company, among others. We believe he will continue to learn, grow, and have a good time here. Ya never know, he may even graduate to the Big Roll some day.

Here are three wonderful clips of Logan in action.

First-rate job today bud, rest up, cause we shall see you again real soon!

Take care,

-Grant

Welcome Zoey

Today we assessed Zoey. She is a five month old, thirty-five pound, Boxer. Zoey stayed in The Fort's Medium Roll where she thrived. This young Dog Daycare regular, is already quite social, and adept at canine communication. Zoey is a very sweet dog, that fit in well with the pack. She played with a few different Fort Fido members, with Georgie and Jack, becoming her favorites.

Here is a couple little shots of Zoey in action:

Well done today Zoey, you may visit whenever you'd like.

Be well,

-Grant

A Few Clips

Last night's Overnight Boarding twas a "Boxer Love Affair"... With none other than Gage and Liberty, having fun throughout the night. Cute stuff!

The Medium Roll today was fast and furious! Keeping the steady pace, was Bob Marley and Sahale, among several others.

Last but not least, a nice shot from the Big Roll. Nonstop "Golden Play" from the dynamic duo, Baer & Diego. As you can see, Brutus, was left only to "referee".

LOL!

Take it easy,

-Grant

Heroes of our day!

Rogue and Storm!! This dynamic duo came and assessed this morning and passed with flying colors. A pair of Lab/Boxer mixes that are a sweet 5 months old. Ready to rip it up in our medium roll, they got straight to the action with our other pups Max, Marlee, and Walter.

Not unlike the comic book "X-men", these two live, eat, and play together everyday. Thundering around the play area, Storm loved to test the waters with his new friends, playing chase and chasing in return.

Keeping in line with her namesake, Rogue stood back a bit and watched, learned from, and generally followed storm's footsteps throughout the morning, nosing around and getting used to the surroundings, while waiting for her chance to steal the show.

Over all, these dogs were a blast to have around, and I'm sure they will grow to be an amazing pair of dogs here in our pack.

Thanks for reading, and be sure to check back frequently to keep up to date on Fort Fido's happenings

-Ryan

Two great new dogs!

Last Sunday we assessed Max. He is an eight year old, ninety pound, Coonhound. Max stayed in the Big Roll. He was a curious and confident fellow, quite fluent in "Dog Speak" lol. He did very well here, playing with boxer friend, Liberty, among others. Max used to come to The Fort for training, when we had classes here back in the day... Now, he's ready and eager to experience daycare, as well as overnight boarding here at Fort Fido. Unfortunately, we accidentally deleted our digital picture of Max, but I assure you, he is a good lookin canine-dude. We'll get ya next time Max!

This morning we had the pleasure of assessing Bailey. Bailey is a nine year old, twenty-two pound, Cocker Spaniel. This cute little guy hung out with us in our Medium Roll and seemed to enjoy the affair. It was evident that Bailey had met a dog or two in his day. Although he didn't play a whole lot, Bailey was cool, calm, and collected around the others. He is more than welcome to join our ranks.

Awesome job Max and Bailey, we shall see you both soon!

Take care,

-Grant

Lady Liberty

We made another new friend this morning at the Fort-- seven-month-old Boxer Liberty. She was the perfect social butterfly, and was fast friends with many of our buddies. Louis captured her heart immediately, and the two took to each other very well. Not long afterward, Odin and Samwise joined the pack and she was just as excited to meet these two new gentlemen!

She definitely fits right in with our rambunctious pack, and we're excited to know that we'll be hanging out again soon.

Gallant Gage

Gage is a strikingly handsome, three year old, seventy-five pound, brindle & white colored, Boxer. This well mannered guy stayed in The Fort's Big Roll this morning. Gage is a very nice and well behaved dog. Although he didn't play a lot, he did interact with various members of the pack. We will chalk this day up to a "warmup" for Gage. We are almost certain that he will begin to play more, given time. Gage is without a doubt welcome to come to Fort Fido. Hopefully, we will get to know him even better.

Unfortunately, this clip isn't Gage in action. However, it does show pup Great Dane Theodore having tons of fun with "Big Woman" Athena. You can spot Gage in the background though! :)

Take care,

-Grant

Quirky Quincy

Quincy is a 10 month old boxer that came to Fort Fido for the first time this morning. He's a dashing young gentleman, that is coming to daycare so that he has a chance to burn off some excess energy! Boxers tend to be a very energetic bunch--he had quite a good time putting the moves on Bella (another Boxer) who just couldn't resist the chance to play. We caught a cute clip of the two in action.

Needless to say, Quincy is welcome back, and we (and Bella) hope to see him again soon!

See you back here tomorrow,
-Hope

Sleepy Dog Compilation

Last week, Jasmine's mom (I suppose owner is the proper term lol) told me about a really funny YouTube video featuring a Boxer that doesn't want to get up in the morning. Thanks for telling me about that, it's hilarious! After that clip, I found a few others that had me chuckling. Here ya go, enjoy!

Take it easy out there today, watch out for those blustery winds.

-Grant
P.S. Fort Fido Doggie Daycare does not advocate having your dog sleep in your bed or sleeping-in in general... Wake 'em up early and bring them into The Fort for their cardio instead hahaha. ;)

Double Dog Dare Ya

Boy o boy, what an eventful week it has been. I figured it would be a big one due to last week's snow. This morning, we assessed two new Medium Roll puppies! We were as pleased as punch when both young dogs passed with flying colors.

First up was Sadie. She is a five month old, thirty-two pound Labrador Retriever / Coonhound Mix. Sadie has "puppy" written all over her. She is tall and lanky, quite adorable yet ruff and tumble. Sadie did very well with the other dogs and played like there was no tomorrow.

Later on Jax rolled in. He is a four month old, thirty-four pound, Boxer. Like Sadie, Jax is a high-energy and curious puppy-dog. He went to playing right away and excelled at it. Jax is a fine specimen that got along great with the others pack members.

Both pups enjoyed their stay immensely. They are welcome back to The Fort anytime. We are excited to have them in again, these two shall turnout to be some marvelous adult canines.

Watch these clips of the newbies having a ball.

Be well,

-Grant

*Update*

A special WELCOME BACK! goes out to our Big Roll pal Big Duke. You may recall that Duke has been going through some serious health issues. Surprisingly, things are on the up and up for him. So much so, that he was able to attend daycare today with his brother Jack. Way to be Duke, you are one tough animal... You can do it buddy! :)

Stella's a spitfire!

Please welcome Stella to The Fort. She is a darling, five month old, thirty pound, Boxer that had her assessment early today. Stella did amazingly well for her first day. She spoke darn good "DOG" for a pup and got along wonderfully with all of the pack members. The Medium Roll is the quintessential fit for her at this time. We have Boxers in both the Big and Medium Rolls. Stella is full of energy yet quite intelligent, most of the Boxers we come across here at Fort Fido tend to be this way, lucky for us lol! They are definitely a striking and popular breed. Swell job today Stell ;), we hope to see you around these parts again.

Enjoy your weekend,

-Grant
P.S. Checkout these two clips I scored of Stella playing this morning. One features Tikvah (no surprise there) playing with Stella and the other shows her tearing it up with Buddha... Unfortunately the fence got in the way of that one.

Top Breeds @ The Fort

The other day, I got to thinking about the various canine breeds we've encountered here at The Fort. We have had well over 600 dogs walk through our doors since 2006. It's a bit tricky for us to determine how many different breeds there has been (including mixed breeds), but we would guess that at least 75+ varieties of dogs have attended.

With that said, here are the Top Five Breeds from Fort Fido Doggie Daycare. This was no trouble for us to figure out as it has become quite clear over the years.

1. The Labrador Retriever and all it's color variations. The Chocolate and Yellow Labs being the most popular. This makes a lot of sense considering the Labs make a wonderful all-around dog for any type of family or individual.

2. Oodles of Doodles... Poodles and all of their popular "designer" mixed breeds. The Labradoodle, Goldendoodle, Cockapoo, Maltipoo, Yorkipoo, Schnoodles, etc... All of these breeds are mighty cute and hypoallergenic, hence the popularity.

3. The Golden Retriever. Has been America's most popular dog breed time and time again. It reminds me of Baseball and Apple Pie lol.

4. Boxer. They have the most energy/stamina of any dog we have ever seen. Makes sense why there are several at The Fort eh? Even though they seem to be fully-ampled at all times, Boxers tend to be pretty well behaved and well rounded daycare dogs for us.

5. German Shepherd. These dogs are majestic and powerful creatures yet need much time, training and energy from their owners. They are, what we always say, "A LOT OF DOG". ;)

This was quite interesting and fun for us to think about.

We have to put the Shih Tzu as an honorable mention. We've had tons of these guys running around, besides, I wouldn't want to tick-off Mr. C !

Cheers,

-Grant
P.S. Found this interesting, you may too... The Worlds 10 Most Expensive Dog Breeds. Also, all of our Top Dogs were on the 2011 Most Popular Dog Breeds list from the AKC, no surprise there! Here is a cooler, visual, version of that same list.

Welcome back! I hope your Thanksgiving Holiday went well. We are back in action here at The Fort! :)

From the Big Roll we have a clip of new pals Copper and Zodiac, it's great to see these two get some energy out. Don't mind Ryker relieving himself haha, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go.

Two from the Medium Roll. One showing the love affair that is "Barkley & Kona". The other clip is to show that new pup Bogie is doing just fine in the Medium Roll lol... Here he takes down a boxer!
