- Zesty Zeus -

We welcomed Zeus into Fort Fido this morning. Zeus is a handsome 6-month-old Rhodesian Ridgeback. He was excited to enter The Fort for his assessment today. Zeus was cautious at first, but as soon as he met the other pups, he learned that he can relax and enjoy his time here. Zeus loved the time he had spent here in the morning as he met and socialized with the pack today within large roll. Zeus definitely enjoyed his stay and we look forward to seeing him return for some more fun with the pack at Fort Fido.

Enjoy the weather and stay cool,
- Zach

~Riley Eve~

This Christmas Eve morning, we had the luxury of welcoming Riley. Riley is a 8-month old 45 pound mixed breed pup. We had him enter the large roll, he sadly didn't have his sleigh and sack with him. Riley was ready-to-go as soon as he saw some other pups entering The Fort. Soon after Zeus arrived, Riley went right into "play phase" with Zeus as seen below.
We are enthusiastic about having Riley return to play some more.
From all of the staff at Fort Fido we wish you happy holidays! There will not be another blog post until 12 / 29 / 2014. Enjoy your holiday!

Becoming a Good Canine Citizen

While all dogs possess the ability to be a good dog, being an ambassador between humans and canines is a little more difficult, and requires some training (on both the pup's part and on the human's). The AKC or American Kennel Club offers a special chance to train, test, and reward your dog for their good behavior, or to help you identify where your companion could use a little help.

"Started in 1989, the CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs."

Any dog that can pass the 10-step CGC test  receives a certificate from the American Kennel Club, And also,an opportunity to start other AKC programs such as agility, tracking, or performance events. State legislature has even begun recognizing the CGC program as a means of advocating responsible dog ownership and 34 states have Canine Good Citizen resolutions.

Now, the reason I write this in our blog is because Zeus, one of our fine looking Doberman has completed his training and has passed that rigorous test, and is a fully fledged member of the AKCCGC!! Congratulations to Zeus and his owners for all the hard work that was put into making this a reality! Good Work Buddy!

Thanks for reading, see ya next week!

GOAL!

Unfortunately The Sounders didn't get as far as I wanted them to this year (You still rock though!) but...

The Big and Medium Rolls did, with "Hearding Ball" soccer or "Treibbal" this morning LOL!

Zeus and Thorn ended up being the star forwards. It was a fun game for all the pups involved, even the dogs not into the ball, yet into chasing the dogs chasing the ball!

Have a look:

Cheers,

-Grant
P.S. What a fun looking game this "Treibbal" is... Here is another article I found about it.

Several Clips

Starting off with one of Jasmine, Macs and Zeus rough housing in the Medium Roll...

And another one from the wild and wooly Medium Roll.

Here is a shot of today's Big Roll from the stairs lol, twas a nice vantage point.

I followed Gherie up to the Little Roll today, it ended up being pretty cute although we need a new camera... Been saying that for awhile now. It'll happen, gotta break this one more first.

Jaeger put an end to this last great clip we had going haha, we have to edit out certain things. ;)

Cheers,

-Grant
P.S. YouTube has been funky today, some clips, or at least the last one, might not load, sorry. It's not my fault I swear!

Exuberant Zoe

Get a load of Zoe! The latest addition to Fort Fido's Little Roll. She is a three month old, ten pound, Miniature Goldendoodle. We have several Goldendoodles at The Fort and even a few Miniature Labradoodles but no Miniature Goldendoodles until now... This Zoe, cute can hardly begin to describe her. This precious one is a cuddle-bug that you wouldn't want to put down (but you must lol don't want any S.A. happening). She did a fine job meeting the pack upstairs and even found a good friend in little roller Gherie. Zoe and her owners will really be able to reap the benefits of dog daycare. As most of you already know, it is the "bee's knees" for socialization and extracting puppy energy. ;) Wonderful job today Zoe, we look forward to seeing you again.

Take it easy,

-Grant
P.S. Here are a few neat clips from today, one featuring Zoe.

Medium Monday

Not a medium dog but hey it looks like a medium sized mug ;)

It was pretty much non-stop crazy fun in the Medium Roll today... Only had to intervene a few times, that's good lol. There was just the right mix of hard playing regulars ready to let out their energy. Have a look:

Have a great week!

The Rolls, The Clips

From the Big Roll, Mother Maggie was on patrol as usual... There is always some "correcting" to be done when Chocolate Lab gal Kodiak is in the thick of it! Osbourne seems to be watching in amazement lol, "How does she do it?".

In the Medium Roll it was business as usual. You know, Tikvah in every shot doing something super fun, Zeus too, haha. ;)

Samantha had us chuckling with her "after-romp lounge position". A dog has to be mighty comfortable to be on it's back like that, especially with the pack. :)

Upstairs, known as the "Little Roll", was its fast and furious self. We captured a bit of Wrastlin' in between ball time. The usual suspects were hitting it hard; Buddy, Chloe, Pearl and Frizzy just to name a few.

Take care,

-Grant

Monday's clips and news

Welcome back! I hope your Thanksgiving Holiday went well. We are back in action here at The Fort! :)

From the Big Roll we have a clip of new pals Copper and Zodiac, it's great to see these two get some energy out. Don't mind Ryker relieving himself haha, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go.

Two from the Medium Roll. One showing the love affair that is "Barkley & Kona". The other clip is to show that new pup Bogie is doing just fine in the Medium Roll lol... Here he takes down a boxer!

_ - = Roll Clips = - _

Here are a few we captured today.

There was a lot of feisty action upstairs in the Little Roll. Not sure what got in the water lol but every dog seemed to want to "wrestle play". Good times! You can find Buddy, Chloe, Frizzy, Ginger, Pearl and Raleigh in the thick of it.

The Medium Roll had Miss Tikvah at it again... She's growing like a weed and doing first rate. She finally got the ever so popular medium-gal Sofie to play with her. Zeus, is a big Tikvah fan and so is Gibson, surprise, surprise!

Take it easy today,

-Grant

P.S. We thought Zeus came in as Casper today hahaha.

Tikvah (and others) doing great!

Got some neat clips today... Tikvah, in particular, has really been blossoming here at The Fort. She is now a member of our Medium Roll. Tikvah has grown a bit and plays hard, those are the factors the facilitated the move. :) Since being with the medium group, she has been doing exceptionally well. Check it out!

Watch this next clip, Ginger, is one of the most agile dogs we have here. She almost does a full back flip, attempting to snatch the ball mid-air, in the beginning of this one.

The last clip is some ball from the Little Roll and play from the best friend-"Rebel Rousers" Chloe & Pearl. You can hear our newest employee, Kelsey, just making sure the pups aren't getting too wild. ;)

Leaving y'all with a few news articles found this afternoon:

Training a dog to stop jumping up (Always a tricky one, we get asked about it often.)

When it's time to sue over poop (Heaven forbid!)

Halloween tips for you and your dog (Posted one like this last week, there is always some good stuff in articles like this.)

Fido & Clips

(Apparently, this is a Photo of a Hubley Cast Iron Piggy-Bank from the early 1900's, cool!)

Why did "Fido" become the generic family dog name?

I didn't know either lol, maybe you did... I just learned that Fido comes from the Latin fidus, meaning faithful / I trust, a very fitting term for "Man's best friend". Neat, ya learn something new everyday. ;)

Now here are some outstanding clips from today's rolls.

First up, Abby, Grady, Stella and Ziva have been romping hard all day together in the Big Roll.

It has also been a Chocolate Lab fest in the Large Roll today, here, Osbourne, Kodiak and Grady have a triple threat match. They must know their the same breed lol.

Things were fast and furious in the Medium Roll today as always. Miss Phoebe loves stirring up a pot of chase games... Buddha, Diego and Zeus pursue.

Check Pearl out in the Little Roll, she found a big orange ball that she really digs... A clip was taken later in the day and she was still after that ball, too funny.

Last but certainly not least, new pup Mooshu and Pearl had a late afternoon wrestling match that we were able to capture. What a blast!

Take care,

-Grant

Roll clips!

Four from today.

The first one is short but sweet showing the ball-of-furry that can be the Little Roll lol.

In clip two, from the Medium Roll, Mr. Buddha's got a girlfriend (Phoebe)!

The Medium Roll again, this one shows Mama Mimi schooling young Zeus and Buddha.

In the Big Roll it was daily fun, as usual, you can spot Maggie, Howie, Benny, Maximus, Grady, Mcgee and Stella among others.

Enjoy your weekend,

-Grant

A Sunny day of sprightly Sadie

In for her assessment today was young pup Sadie. She is a seven month old, fifty pound, rough-and-tumble, Golden Retriever. Sadie is perfect for the Medium Roll, she is rambunctious, very high energy but a good girl. She went straight to play with all the wild ones of our medium area. Marco Polo and Zeus were a few of her favorites. We are certain we'll be seeing more of Sadie soon. She is a healthy dog, the activeness of dog daycare is right up her alley. Way to go Sadie!

Stay cool folks,

-Grant
P.S. Here is a clip of Sadie's first meeting with Polo early in the AM, as you can see, it went well. I'm throwing in a fun clip of the Little Roll from this afternoon just for good measure. ;)

Luckily our new computer has arrived, yeah! We should be up and running with our new system in a couple of days. We are doing everything with a laptop right now and it is nice but not ideal. Blogger is having some issues with the laptop's browser/operating system. Hope was unable to get a Blog Post going on Saturday and I'm having trouble with this one lol.

For now, let us checkout a few clips from today.

In the Medium Roll, Emily, Mimi and Zeus busted moves off and on all day long. They are a quite the trio of pals.

From the Big Roll, Louis and Popo romp hard as usual.

Upstairs in the Little Roll we get another glimpse of "newbie" Phoebe Marie doing well. Here she does her best to get Lucy to play with her.

Enjoy the start of your week, looks like good weather shall be returning soon! At least we don't have to water anything today. ;)

clip time

Everyone's favorite time.

From the Little Roll... It's just a never ending ballgame as usual. You can spot Buddy, Chloe, Raleigh, Koji and Cooper.

Two from the Medium Side.

You can spot Gibson, Marley, Emily, Zeus and Gemma having a party. Diego's back is seen as well lol ;).

Emily and Marley continued to hit it off all day long.

In the Big Roll, Abby and Marco Polo played hard in the AM!

Also, newer friends of The Fort Rocky and Mollie found love today haha.

Two Logan Pics & Clips

Logan's ma Becky was kind enough to send in some funny photos of the big guy. Here he is posing with his favorite beverage hahaha. Wow, I've heard of a little beer now and again for a dogs coat but I can't vouch for the Irish Whiskey.

Here is a clip from very early in the morning. Beautiful Irish Setter Miura is usually the first one in the Medium Roll. When she is the first dog in, her and Nancy love having one on one ball time together.

It's official! Chloe and Pearl have "Busted Out" (AKA began to act like pack members, really interacting and playing.) there is no stopping these two pups now, everyday will be fun filled for them in the Little Roll.

Medium Roll pooch Madi has also been branching out and doing well. Here she takes on Boxer Boy Zeus for some excitement.

Have a nice weekend,

-Grant
P.S. No, Logan doesn't really drink whiskey... Don't worry! Fort Fido, LLC does not condone giving your dog alcohol. Heck, our pets don't even get table scraps! ;)

A soggy summer day...

At least we are all nice and dry inside The Fort. ;)

Three clips from today.

Two from the Medium Roll.

New Poodle Boover took a liking to Mr. Koji, I believe the feeling was mutual.

Bella (Tod) and puppin Zeus were at it again today. The two are becoming best buddies.

In the Big Roll, young Berner Gem was really having a blast. Here she is tumbling around with Fort Fido regular Denali.

Stay dry, I hope that summer gets back here in a jif!

Four Fun Clips! ! ! !

One from the Little Roll featuring new pups Chloe and Pearl. We are seeing more and more out of these two after each visit. Although not captured on film, Chloe and Pearl did do some play-bows today, that is always a very good sign. Quite sure that these two frisky fillies will be ruff-housing with the best of them soon.

Our other three clips are from the Medium Roll.

The first one is a great cross-section of the fun-loving and playful dogs that we had in there today.

Another from the Medium side, Emily, Libby and Marley tearing it up together!

Last but not least, puppy Zeus had his paws full today, battling Golden Retriever Mollie and Emily from both ends. Haha, it's gotta be the clip of the day.

Take care,

-Grant
