Po & FiFi

We welcomed two new dogs to The Fort today...

Say hello to Po, and Fifi! Po is a nine pound, six year old Papillon/Teacup Poodle Mix. Fifi is three years old, weighs eight pounds and is a Maltese/Yorkie mix... These two had a good first day with us. Po and Fifi are two peas in a pod who loved exploring our Small Dog Program and showed great "dog speak." They are more than welcome to come back whenever they please.

Have a good day,
~Shaunte'

Eva & Maximus

Eva joined our Small Dog Program yesterday morning with grace and ease. She's a three year old, Maltese/ Yorkshire Terrier/Poodle Mix that weighs ten pounds. When she first entered her new play area, she romped around with the other dogs, scoped out her surroundings, and discovered one of our cool benches where she then jumped onto and hung out; looking all pretty. I think her name definitely suits her. She's just about as graceful as the famous, Ava Gardner herself.

This morning we welcomed Maximus into The Fort for his assessment. He's a very handsome one in a half year old Boxer that weighs forty five pounds. We noticed right away that this one is a social butterfly. He had a lot of fun meeting and greeting his new dog friends, and played quite a bit. He fit right in with all the other dogs in our Large Dog Program just as if he was the missing puzzle piece.

Both Eva and Max are more than welcome to come back whenever they please.

Have a wonderful night.

Cooper & Lexi

Welcome Cooper! This freckled 2 year-old English Setter weighing at 50 lbs. came into The Fort with gusto. As soon as he began to meet with the pack, Cooper was up and at 'em playing. We were able to catch a video of Cooper with Abby.

On Lexi's first day she entered Fort Fido with investigative eyes. Lexi is a 4 year-old, 8 lbs., Maltese. Lexi did well  for her first day and will be coming back for an extended stay soon. We are looking forward to getting to know this darling little diva.

Have a nice evening,

Welcome Sadie and Shaunte Photos

Yesterday we welcomed Miss Sadie to Fort Fido. She is a happy, three year old, sixteen pound, Maltese and Miniature Schnauzer Mix. Upstairs in the Little Roll, Sadie did a nice job of fitting in with the pack. She didn't play a whole heck of a lot, however she did interact with the group quite a bit, meeting, greeting, and scurrying around lol... Which are all good things, especially on a first day at The Fort, it can be slightly overwhelming for some canines. Sadie kept pretty calm and balanced, and did a good job throughout her Assessment, she is welcome to visit us anytime.

A few days ago, Fort Fido Staff Member, Shaunte, took some outstanding photos while on duty. I thought I'd share them with y'all here, enjoy!

Have a great weekend,

Reggie & Bentley in full effect!

Yesterday had the Fort Fido Team meeting up with, Reggie, for his Assessment. He is a super-sweet, one year old, forty pound, German Shepherd and Terrier Mix. Reggie has had a very tough first year, he was found servery abused, more or less "left for dead", on the side of a road in Texas... After that, he was shuffled between many households and rescues. Now, fortunately for Reggie, he has found a loving forever-home with his new owner. Knowing Reggie's background, we proceeded with much caution during his introduction to our Medium Roll. We were astonished with Reggie's care free and happy disposition, as he wagged his whole body in excitement and sniffed about the play area. When it was time to meet some canines, Reggie did so like a social-butterfly-veteran. We had him meet up with the high-energy Roxy first, and the two canines basically fell in love with each other lol. They play bowed and got into chase-me-games right away. As time moved on and the pack grew, Reggie kept his calm around all of the other dogs, making friends out of almost all of them too easily. We were truly taken back by just how amazing Reggie did here, especially given the whirlwind of drama he's gone through. He is a true testament to dogs, the canine brain, and their resiliency... How they can overcome, adapt, and continue to love is unbelievable. We could all learn a lot from Reggie. :)

Checkout Reggie in action with Roxy and Walter:

(Bentley and Emmy Cheesin' it so cutely!)

Today we had an adorable little dog-guy, named Bentley, in for his Assessment. He is a striking, four month old, seven pound, black and white colored, Maltese, Shih Tzu, and Lhasa Apso Mix. Your normal, happy and healthy puppy, Bentley, was super-ready to go this morning. We headed up to the Little Roll with him, teaching him "stairs" along the way lol. Once in the Small Dog Play Area, Bentley was fascinated with his new found place, and he seemed to know that fun was in store for him. As the pack entered, Bentley greeted each member joyously, but not too rowdily, which is good for a young pup. Some pups get too excitable when meeting other dogs, which leads to them having to be "corrected" by the elder canine. Bentley "fell head over heels" for little Shih Tzu puppy, Emmy, when she arrived. The two dogs played wholeheartedly throughout the day, making the perfect pair. Bentley's owner is doing a fine job with him. He should grow up to be a well balanced and quite social adult canine. Swell job!

Take a look at Bentley pallin' around with his new best buddy, Emmy:

We look forward to having both, Reggie and Bentley, into The Fort again real soon.

Happy Friday!

Mabel & Harlowe

Here are two cuties, that we met up with today for their Assessments. Meet Mabel and Harlowe, what great names!

Mabel is a one year old, thirteen pound, Havanese and Shih Tzu Mix, AKA, a Havashu.

Harlowe is a three year old, sixteen pound, Lhasa Apso and Maltese Mix, AKA, a Lhatese.

Mabel is a bit more spunky than her "brother" Harlowe, more social, and much more interested in play. She even started to chase a ball around a bit during Ball Time.

Harlowe on the other hand, is more laid-back and reserved when compared to Mabel. He was fine with the pack, but didn't seem too interested in any rebel-rousing lol.

Both Mabel and Harlowe are great dogs, that are welcome to attend Fort Fido anytime. Given some time and consistency, they should get even more comfortable here. We hope that they can extract much more fun from future Fort visits.

Have a nice weekend, GO HAWKS!

Bright Benji

This morning the Fort Fido crew met up with the loveable Benji. He is a one year old, seventeen pound, black and white colored, Miniature Australian Shepherd and Maltese Mix. Benji followed us up to the Small Dog Play Area. Once therein, he explored the area rather quickly, then moved on to wondering what was next. Rusty arrived minutes later, and that was Benji's first chance to meet one of The Fort's key pack members... The two hit it off beautifully! Benji exhibits pretty good canine communication skills for a young buck, and it's obvious that he only wants to get along and have a good time. As the pack grew, Benji continued to fit in with the others and have fun. He really liked Ball Time and all of the toys we have to offer. We look forward to meeting up with Benji again in the near future.

Here's a little clip of Benji having a blast during Ball Time.

Take care,

Fantastic Fred

Meet Fred, he is a cheerful, eight year old, nineteen pound, Maltese who had his assessment this morning. After arriving, Fred ventured into our Little Roll. Up there, he sniffed about some and then he settled into his new digs. Once we introduced Fred to a few pack members, he warmed up to the others and immediately began to socialize. Fred mingled and began to feel relaxed after meeting Seamus. Shortly afterwards, Pearl and Dixie showed up to show Fred that The Fort is about having fun and being safe. He has a great spirit and will continue to sniff around the Little Roll on his next adventure to Fort Fido. He will discover even more new friends to make the next time he returns. We look forward to seeing Fred again another day.

Stay dry in this wet weather!

The Handyman is in!

Meet Handy. He is a fun-loving, ten month old, seven pound, white colored, Maltese. This spunky little fellow, had his assessment in the Little Roll. Handy did very well, and was quite eager to experience his new surroundings. He is confident, courageous, and carries a large, likable personality. Handy made playmates out of the other pack members quickly and easily. It was a wonderful first day for Handy. He'll be a pleasure for us to have here at The Fort.

In the following clips, Handy gets to know Fort Fido regulars, Rusty and Buckwheat. The two were a perfect match-up for the Handyman.

Cheers,

-Grant

Welcome two, new to the crew!

We had two first rate assessments early this morning. Two dogs from the same family but each was very much an individual.

First up was Annie. She is a pretty little, two year old, twelve pound, white and cream, Maltese / Bichon Frise Mix. Annie headed up to the Little Roll and did ok. She showed some interest in the other dogs and relaxed as more dogs came in. We think Annie enjoyed the calming effect of the pack. Hopefully she'll bust out and play soon.

Second was Murphy. He is a six year old, eighty pound, tan, Labradoodle. Murphy traveled to the Big Roll. He is a very friendly dog that has big, brown, expressive eyes. Once Murphy get's used to daycare, we think he will be one of the popular ones hehe. All the dogs seemed to like him but he was just a little cautious. Hopefully it's just first day jitters. Once he gets in the groove he should start having a blast.

Way to go Annie and Murphy! We'll see you again soon.

Have a great day everybody,

-Grant

What a great morning! Three assessments, all did super good! Marlo (Schipperke) and Tito (Chihuahua Mix) are brothers. Hunter (Shih Tzu / Maltese Mix) is a young pup who had a blast. All three dogs loved the Little Roll upstairs.

Take it easy,

-Grant
P.S. I found this great article Sunday evening. It is about how 12 dog breeds got their names, cool!

Cody & Lonnie

Cody is a Maltese / Havanese mix. He is around twelve pounds and will be having his first birthday soon. Iolani or "Lonnie" is a 4 year old, twelve pound, Bichon Frise / Miniature Poodle mix. They are both great little lads who really enjoy life. Boy are these two getting their kicks in this clip! Enjoy,
