Abby, Oskar, & Agnes

Abby was our teeny tiny, cute little assessment from Thursday! She's only three months old, and has a lot of personality and spunk. Abby is a Shih Tzu that only weighs two pounds... We knew from the moment she entered our Small Dog Program, that she was going to make a great addition to The Fort. She had some pep in her step, as she playfully trotted over to Maisy; the first dog we introduced her to. Her tail was wagging up a storm! We were able to catch her Dog Speak on video, check her out below!

We will be seeing Abby again for boarding next week! She's also going to come in certain days out of the month, to bring her in for some daycare fun, and socialization! We look forward to seeing her return.

This adorable Dachshund  was one of our assessments from today! He's six years old, weighs around nineteen pounds and joined our Small Dog Program. It was clear that this wasn't his first time at the rodeo... Oskar has had previous experience with being at other Daycares before. He was quick to explore our picnic table and scope out the place!

Agnes also assessed and joined our Small Dog Program today- as she's Oskar's younger sister... This little girl is only ten months old, and weighs a whole of six pounds! Can you guess what type of dog she is? Agnes is a Chinese Crested, having more hair than this breed typically does. She was a little nervous at first since she hasn't really had much interaction with dogs her size, besides her brother. As the morning progressed we noticed her opening up a bit, and start to gain confidence as she was greeting dogs by sniffing their butts. In the dog world, sniffing another dog's butt should be the first thing they do when they greet each other. It's how they pick up on scent the best, and remember who the dog is if they've met before. It's proper dog etiquette; just like shaking someones hand when you meet them for the first time, is expected.

All three of these dogs are welcome to come back for more Fort Fido fun, whenever they want.

Douglas, Miso, and Geddy

Douglas was our dashing assessment that joined our Medium Dog Program yesterday morning. He weighs thirty pounds, is nine months old, and is some type of Australian Shepherd Mix. His day started on a great note because as soon as he arrived for the morning, he saw his friend pulling in right after him! Luna is a Standard Poodle puppy who joined us earlier this month. She's been enjoying her time here, so Douglas wanted to come on by and see what the fun is all about.

 















Miso and Geddy were our assessments for today. Both of them were very curious and ready to explore as soon as they entered our doors. They showed good dog speak, and Miso even found a few toys that he enjoyed playing with! Miso is seven years old weighs fourteen pounds, and is a Lhasa Apso! Geddy is ten years old, weighs eleven pounds and is a Shih Tzu.

All three dogs are welcome to come back and have more fun here whenever they want.

Kai, Skye, & Gizmo

 Yesterday was a busy day for us because we had the pleasure of welcome three dogs for their assessments- that were all from the same family. They all did wonderfully and passed with flying colors!

  Kai was the first one that really ventured out and showed interest in playing! He's an eight year old, twenty pound Shih Tzu. Kai's first buddy was an Italian Greyhound named Barkley.

 Skye is a twelve year old Shih Tzu as well, that weighs twelve pounds. She seemed to enjoy her short stay with us and was very well mannered. We noticed that she showed great Dog Speak! I love her expressive eyebrows!

 And last but not least, it's Gizmo! He's a super energetic dog that's eight years old and weighs eighteen pounds. Gizmo was such a happy and friendly dog. Both him, and his two other siblings all joined our Small Dog Program.

Kai, Skye, and Gizmo are all welcome to come back for more daycare fun in the future! I'm looking forward to seeing them again someday.

Jolly Chin Chin

Today we welcomed the jolly Chin Chin! Chin Chin is a 13 year-old, 13 lbs., Shih Tzu. She came into our front door casually and made her way up and into our Small Dog Program. When she landed her four paws into the play area she began to explore the whole Small Dog Program. During her time here, she was able to mingle about with many other small pups and socialized throughout her stay.

We look forward to having Chin Chin return soon,

Daisy & Ruxin

Yesterday morning we had Daisy come in for her assessment. Daisy is a 7 year-old, 9.5 pound, Shih-Tzu. After entering the front door and sniffing about in the lobby shortly, Daisy made her way up into the small roll. I noticed that after some other pups entered, she was relaxing more. Daisy socialized about yesterday and we hope to see her return soon.

Ruxin investigated Fort Fido today upon his arrival. He is an 8 month-old, 45 pound, Australian Shepard Mix. He was not quite sure, being his first day and all, where he was or what to do. Ruxin soon learned that he could mingling about and socializing was the name of the game here at The Fort. Ruxin will be boarding with us this weekend and he's sure to have a fantastic time.

McGinnis & Bella

Welcome McGinnis and Bella to Fort Fido. McGinnis is a 10-year-old Austrilian Sheppard and Bella is a 1 1/2 year-old Shih Tzu Mix. McGinnis strolled right on into medium roll while Bella confidently entered into small roll. They both found out right away that The Fort is all about having fun and that they can relax here. McGinnis may not have played a lot today but he enjoyed mingling and meeting the pack. Bella really enjoyed her time here and with some more time would surely play about with the others. We look forward to seeing both McGinnis and Bella return to Fort Fido for some more fun.

Reggie & Bentley in full effect!

Yesterday had the Fort Fido Team meeting up with, Reggie, for his Assessment. He is a super-sweet, one year old, forty pound, German Shepherd and Terrier Mix. Reggie has had a very tough first year, he was found servery abused, more or less "left for dead", on the side of a road in Texas... After that, he was shuffled between many households and rescues. Now, fortunately for Reggie, he has found a loving forever-home with his new owner. Knowing Reggie's background, we proceeded with much caution during his introduction to our Medium Roll. We were astonished with Reggie's care free and happy disposition, as he wagged his whole body in excitement and sniffed about the play area. When it was time to meet some canines, Reggie did so like a social-butterfly-veteran. We had him meet up with the high-energy Roxy first, and the two canines basically fell in love with each other lol. They play bowed and got into chase-me-games right away. As time moved on and the pack grew, Reggie kept his calm around all of the other dogs, making friends out of almost all of them too easily. We were truly taken back by just how amazing Reggie did here, especially given the whirlwind of drama he's gone through. He is a true testament to dogs, the canine brain, and their resiliency... How they can overcome, adapt, and continue to love is unbelievable. We could all learn a lot from Reggie. :)

(Bentley and Emmy Cheesin' it so cutely!)

Today we had an adorable little dog-guy, named Bentley, in for his Assessment. He is a striking, four month old, seven pound, black and white colored, Maltese, Shih Tzu, and Lhasa Apso Mix. Your normal, happy and healthy puppy, Bentley, was super-ready to go this morning. We headed up to the Little Roll with him, teaching him "stairs" along the way lol. Once in the Small Dog Play Area, Bentley was fascinated with his new found place, and he seemed to know that fun was in store for him. As the pack entered, Bentley greeted each member joyously, but not too rowdily, which is good for a young pup. Some pups get too excitable when meeting other dogs, which leads to them having to be "corrected" by the elder canine. Bentley "fell head over heels" for little Shih Tzu puppy, Emmy, when she arrived. The two dogs played wholeheartedly throughout the day, making the perfect pair. Bentley's owner is doing a fine job with him. He should grow up to be a well balanced and quite social adult canine. Swell job!

Welcome Emmy & Maurice

Here are The Fort's latest recruits... Two total opposites lol, Emmy & Maurice!

We Assessed Emmy on Tuesday morning. She is a three month old, five pound, brown and black colored, Shih Tzu. This super cute little gal, was absolutely fabulous upstairs in our Little Roll Play Area. She really enjoyed meeting with the other canines and being part of the pack. For such a young dog, Emmy, exhibited great confidence and socialization skills.

Today, we had Maurice in for his Assessment. He is a striking, five month old, sixty-five pound, Great Dane. Now Maurice, just so happens to be the "little" brother of Fort Fido Member, Jude, talk about a house-full! Maurice is here to burn off some extra energy and improve his canine communication. In the Big Roll, he did a fine job of that, making pals, and integrating into the pack easily. Maurice even got a chance to meet with a few of our other Great Dane buddies today, Theodore and Verbena. He took a liking to Theodore, and the two dogs frolicked for a little bit right after exchanging sniffs. Given strong leadership, time, and consistency, we think that Maurice will become a very well balanced adult dog. We also think that we are going to see a lot more play and activity out of him, in future visits to The Fort.

Both Emmy and Maurice are welcome to attend Fort Fido anytime they'd like, we are sure happy to have them!

Stella and then Lucy!

 (We liked Stella's "top knot-do", real Shih Tzuy lol, now if only this pic did her justice!)

Yesterday, we had Stella in for her Assessment Day. She is a nine month old, eleven pound, black and white colored, Shih Tzu. This regal little gal hung out with us upstairs in The Fort's Little Roll. There, she did quite well, acting particularly calm and balanced for such a young dog. Stella didn't get into too much play, however she seemed to enjoy spending time with the pack. Her owners are doing a fine job raising her up. Shih Tzus are a very "headstrong" breed, that can become quite demanding in the wrong hands lol... Lucky for Stella, and us, she has some strong leadership at home. Way to go guys, keep it up!

This morning, we met with Lucy for her Assessment Day. She is a three year old, fifty pound, German Shepherd Mix... That just so happens to be the "aunt" of Fort Fido regular Kingsley. Lucy tried the Big Roll on for size right away, and liked it. She explored the play area, and then met with the other canines that arrived, in a kind and proper fashion. As time went by and the pack grew, Lucy even got to see "nephew Kingsley" join the mix lol. We believe, given time and consistency, that Lucy can become even more playful, and can have even more fun here. We'd love to see her really "bust out" in future visits.

Both Stella and Lucy, are great new additions to our pack, nice work ladies!

Mabel & Harlowe

Here are two cuties, that we met up with today for their Assessments. Meet Mabel and Harlowe, what great names!

Mabel is a one year old, thirteen pound, Havanese and Shih Tzu Mix, AKA, a Havashu.

Harlowe is a three year old, sixteen pound, Lhasa Apso and Maltese Mix, AKA, a Lhatese.

Mabel is a bit more spunky than her "brother" Harlowe, more social, and much more interested in play. She even started to chase a ball around a bit during Ball Time.

Harlowe on the other hand, is more laid-back and reserved when compared to Mabel. He was fine with the pack, but didn't seem too interested in any rebel-rousing lol.

Both Mabel and Harlowe are great dogs, that are welcome to attend Fort Fido anytime. Given some time and consistency, they should get even more comfortable here. We hope that they can extract much more fun from future Fort visits.

Rocky!

Get to know Rocky, who had his assessment at Fort Fido this morning. He is a seasoned, eleven year old, sixteen pound, Shih Tzu Mix. A Dog Daycare Veteran, Rocky, strutted into our lobby ready to get things started. After getting to know our Little Roll solo for a bit, it was time for Rocky to meet the other canines. He met the others with confidence, and his canine communication skills proved to be quite good. He meets and greets with other dogs in an easygoing fashion. Rocky didn't get into much play while he visited today, but that was expected due to his mature age... He just walked around the play area slowly, occasionally sniffing here and there. Mostly, Rocky just relaxed, seemingly comfortable with his new-found surroundings, and "elder" status amongst the pack. We are happy to welcome Rocky to The Fort and plan on seeing him again soon.

Big-time Bodie!

Feast your eyes on this fine specimen, Bodie. He is a handsome, four year old, fourteen pound, Shih Tzu, that had his Assessment at Fort Fido today. Lucky for Bodie, he's found a wonderful forever home with his owner, Janet... Who just so happens to have been a long time Fort supporter. She used to bring her fun-loving, Wildman-of-a-dog, Hunter, to us for years, before he passed, R.I.P.

Now back to Bodie! We trekked upstairs to the Little Roll with him in tow. After letting him get his bearings inside the Play Area, we unleashed some "beasts" for Bodie to meet lol. He met with the others in a kindly and gentle fashion. It was clear from the get-go that he has palled around with other canines before. Once more dogs arrived, Bodie continued to meet and greet with them. He socializes well, but his true love is toys! Bodie particularly liked the orange colored, rubber, Chuckit! balls. All in all, Mr. Bodie may attend Fort Fido whenever he'd like, and we can't wait to see him again.

Kona from Kona Town

 

Today we assessed the fun-loving Kona here at The Fort. He is a curious, ten month old, eleven pound, Shih Tzu and Miniature Dachshund Mix. After entering the Little Roll solo, Kona quickly explored his new found territory. With his nose to the ground and his tail wagging excitedly, he checked out our play-toys and all four corners of the play area.

Kona was quite intrigued to meet other canines. Once they arrived on the scene, Kona greeted them, communicating fairly well for a young canine, albeit rambunctiously lol... Because he is an adolescent dog, Kona, is still learning how to meet, greet, and communicate properly. As the little-dog-pack grew in size, Kona bounced and fluttered from dog to dog, attempting to engage in play. Although he never did end up doing much one on one play, he did burn off some energy by socializing a lot. Kona is welcome to attend Fort Fido. We believe he will become even more comfortable here, and possibly engage in that dyadic (one on one) play, in a future visit. Good work this morning Kona!

Chewbarka!

Although he didn't cruise into The Fort in the Millennium Falcon... He did come in bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning. Meet Chewbarka, AKA, Chewby. He is a five year old, fifteen pound, white and gray colored, Shih Tzu. Chewby hung out with us upstairs, in Fort Fido's Little Roll. A Dog Daycare regular from Idaho, Chewby, enjoys the "daycare scene" and socializes quite well. He really seemed to like it here, once he knew there were other dogs coming in too. At first, Chewby just sniffed around and meandered with a few different members of the pack. After a while, French Bulldog pup, Miguel, showed up, and quickly became one of Chewby's playmates... The two scampered about feverishly for a time, getting in a good bit of "cardio" lol. All in all, Chewbarka had a wonderful time here this morning. We plan on seeing him back here again soon.

- Tenacious Teddy -

 

Today was Teddy's assessment day. He is a friendly, two year old, seven pound, white, grey, and brown colored, Shih Tzu/Miniature Poodle Mix. Teddy entered Fort Fido with wonder and courage. He marched upstairs to the Little Roll, where he met with Gibson and Seamus right away. Teddy speaks quite good "DOG". That skill, gave him the ability to fit into our pack quickly and easily, which he certainly did. Teddy mostly just hung out with the play group and enjoyed himself. Teddy's gleeful-tail wagged often, as he mingled with the other canines. He chased a few toys around, and generally had a fun time. We are thrilled to know that Teddy will be back into The Fort soon... It looks as though he'll be giving our Overnight Boarding a go.

Although we weren't able to catch Teddy in any major "one on one play", you can spot him towards the end of this little "cross-section" clip.

Marvelous Macy

Macy strolled into The Fort this morning, ready for her assessment. She is a sweet, eleven year old, fourteen pound, grey/white/cream colored, Shih Tzu. Macy is a very nice dog, and you would never guess that she is a "tender", eleven years of age, this gal's still got it goin on... Keeping up with several dogs less than half her age! She more or less stayed in the middle of  the Little Roll, greeting the days's pack members as they arrived. Macy is very fluent in "Dog Speak", she exhibited good bite control while correcting puppies, excellent "rear sniffing" or "meeting practices", and, showed off welcoming play-bows. We are pretty sure she is going to begin to play more as she grows even more comfortable here at Fort Fido. First-rate job today Miss Macy! It looks like we'll see you in a few days.

P.S. Yesterday we also had a new recruit. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a photo of him in time for a blog post. Tomorrow, I'll tell y'all about him, he is a really cool-canine and his name is Tucker.

Carefree Cooper

Meet Cooper! He is a super-cute, four year old, seventeen pound, brown and white colored, Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise Mix... That had his assessment this morning. Cooper spent his time in Fort Fido's Little Roll. He did a wonderful job meeting and greeting with the day's pack. Most importantly, Cooper played wholeheartedly during his stay. He took a special liking to Oliver and Rusty, among others. It was a great day for Cooper here at The Fort, he did a fantastic job and enjoyed his stay. We look forward to his next visit. A special "Thank You!" goes out to Little Miss Pearl, for recommending that Mr. Cooper give Dog Daycare a shot. We appreciate it!

- Majestic Mimi -

Fort Fido was graced with the presence of another wonderful little dog today... Meet Mimi! She is a mature, six year old, seventeen pound, Shih Tzu/Yorkshire Terrier Mix. Mimi ventured upstairs to the Little Roll for her assessment. She was calm, confident, and very well balanced. Although Mimi didn't play a whole heck of a lot, she was very content, constantly wagging her tail and looking pleased. This happy little dog, will be a first-rate addition to the Little Roll's Pack, and, we plan on seeing her again next week. Way to go Mimi, we sure hope you'll bust out some feisty play soon!

Klause & Keriko

We were lucky enough to have two great little dogs start this morning. Klause & Keriko! Klause is a spunky boy-Shih Tzu, five months old, five pounds, with white & black coloring. Keriko is a nice, mature gal-Shih Tzu, seven years old, nine pounds, with white & red colored fur.

These two Miniature Shih Tzus were a lot of fun to have here today. They themselves, also had quite a blast upstairs in the Little Roll. Klause & Keriko were delightful guests. They have been very well socialized. Klause & Keriko love to play ball and chase games, all while interacting with the pack. It's a beautiful thing to see! First rate job today you two, we here at Fort Fido highly anticipate your return.

The first two photos, are of the ever-so-photogenic Buddy. This Shih Tzu Man definitely knows how to strike a pose! I'll tell ya though, he isn't just a glamour shots model, this dog is a real player. He can (and does) handle himself with any dog that comes his way, large or small.

Now, for one of my favorites, get a load of Riley. His ma found him surfing the web, landing on his favorite Blog and Youtube Channel... Who'd a thought? Hahaha!
