Kamo Odin joined The Fort today along with his two siblings, Sir & Lady Kironna. Kamo is a 4 year-old, 90 pound, Airedale. As soon as Kamo arrived at Fort Fido, he was ready to unleash his inner playfulness with Rainier (Check out below). We hope to see the trio soon!

Please welcome Kaylee, Jupiter & Rainier!

Yesterday we Assessed Kaylee, she is a nine month old, about twenty-five pound, Labrador Retriever and Boxer Mix. Now Kaylee is a very sweet, yet very shy and timid canine. She is here at The Fort, to socialize, play, and gain some confidence. We escorted Kaylee to the Medium Play Area, where she was quite unsure about what she was here to do... However, upon meeting some other canines, Kaylee quickly blossomed, it was an awesome surprise! What she lacks in confidence with humans and new surroundings, she makes up for ten-fold, in dog-play and socialization. Kaylee sprinted around, and played hard with several different members of the Medium Roll's pack. It was a pleasure to see. We believe that Fort Fido can do a lot for Kaylee's confidence and well being. Given time and consistency, we know she can become an even better, and less timid adult dog.

Here, Kaylee has some fun sprinting around with Winnie and Louis, good times!

Today we had a doubleheader of Assessments. Meet Jupiter and Rainier!

Jupiter is a energy-filled, eight month old, fifty-five pound, Blue Merle, Australian Shepherd.

Rainier is a calm, eight month old, fifty pound, Black and White Colored, Australian Shepherd.

Jupiter and Rainier are the type of dogs that would be able to handle both our Medium and Large Play areas. To warm them up to our place, we had them try the Medium Roll on for size. One therein, the two "dog brothers" explored their new surroundings merrily. After a few minutes, it was time to begin to meet the pack. Both Jupiter and Rainier did so properly, and with gusto! They befriended several of the pack members within minutes. They took a real liking to Louis, Shiva, and Otis, among others. We were thrilled to see these two high-energy herding dogs, fit in so well, play, and be liked by the pack so quickly. We have a feeling that We'll be seeing these two dudes again for sure!

In the clips that follow, you can spot both Jupiter and Rainier enjoying themselves.

All of our newcomers have done a real swell job the last couple of days, rock on! Welcome to Fido's Pack.

Have a great weekend and a nice Holiday,

-Grant
P.S. There is still room tonight, and this weekend, for Overnight Boarding. If you need to get your dog in, give us a call and reserve your spot.

Rainier Rocks Ewe-topia!

Our main Catahoula Leopard Dog-Man, Rainier, just took a visit to Ewe-topia! Awhile back, I wrote about Gibson and I's adventure there... The place is awesome, and I highly recommend taking your dog there for some "Farm Fun", no matter what size or breed they are. Your dog can herd sheep, and or ducks, with no experience necessary. It's a blast! The folks that run the place are very kind and knowledgeable. There is even an off leash dog park area with some agility obstacles.

Rainier did extremely well during his visit, I was quite impressed... My "Herding Dog" Gibson, didn't get nearly as involved as Rainier did lol. First rate job boy! It looks like you'll have a career in Sheep Herding in no time... That is of course, as soon as your pops ponies up and gets you a flock. Hahaha!

;)

Enjoy this clip, sent to me from Rainier's owners, of him, busting out his herding skills on those wild and wooly sheep! Thanks for telling us about your stay there guys, and, thank you very much for the video.

Be well,

-Grant

Pics from Fort friends!

Here are some awesome pictures from our pal, Diego, from his current pad in Germany... I've been told, we may get to see the old fella again someday, once he and his family return to the states. Thanks for the pictures dude, be well!

The D-Man staying cool

Topping out our "Cute O' Meter" lol, is Fort Fido mainstay, Rainier, lounging around with his "niece and nephew". Super cool! It looks like he has had quite a summer of babysitting haha. Thank you for the great photo.

Take care,

-Grant
P.S. As always, if any of you out there have pics of your pooch, please send them in!

Life & Longevity

The following was emailed to me from Rainier's folks Joyce and Colin. Thanks guys! They always send me great Blog-worthy stuff... I just had to share this one, really enjoyed it. Sorry, I was unable to make the photo set bigger. Click on it and it will enlarge a bit.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL LESSON IN LIFE AND LONGEVITY

Be nice to others, because. . .

Time WILL make a difference!

One day you will no longer be the big dog...

Just the old dog...

And it's nice to be surrounded by friends!

What a message!

Take it easy,

A neat link and two clips

A couple weeks ago, Rainier's ma, Joyce, sent me a link to an awesome video. It's titled, Useful Dog Tricks 2 performed by Jesse the Jack Russell Terrier. Wow! Too cool, that Jesse is one smart canine and he also has one hell of an owner. Great job! Those Jack Russell Terriers sure are cute but you gotta be on your game to own one.

Attained two outstanding clips this morning.

One from the Big Roll, everyone is ramming and jamming in this clip. Looks like fun!

Almost every time I looked in the Medium Roll today, there was a wild group just having a blast. Bogie, Gus, Pupcake and Tikvah, were an animated quartet indeed!

Have a great day,

-Grant

FFFFriday

It has been a busy week for us here at Fort Fido but or course that is a good thing. March tends to be our busiest month at The Fort and things are already picking up as we get halfway through February. There has been a number of new dogs and old dogs returning... We have also been busy sprucing up for our open house on Sunday March 6th. We hope that you all will attend. We truly appreciate your continuous support.

Evy (kumpi@earthlink.net), owner of Kumpi emailed me a impressive video clip. Check it out here. What a neat trick, that dog can really dunk! He dribbles darn good too!

I'll leave you with a snippet from today's Medium Roll starring Rainier, Walter, Romeo, Otto and Sophie-Alice. With special appearances by Barkley's and Chewy's head haha.

Have a great weekend,

-Grant
P.S. Nobody forget Valentines Day now! Your special sweetie could get miffed if you did lol, it is this coming Monday the 14th, as usual. I'm glad I have just reminded myself. ;)

Lord of the rings

Ma and Pa captured this cool clip of West Highland Terrier, Rainier, roughing up the rubber ring toy. Rainier has been coming to the fort for three years and he has a blast upstairs in the Little Roll. Toys are his absolute favorite thing, especially the new ones we try out.

Take care,

Frisbee dogs!

I was chatting with Rainier's Mom yesterday about Frisbee dogs. I enjoy watching them, it beats the heck out of stuffy old dog shows haha. This clip (from Japan) is an amazing example of the freestyle portion of Disc Dog competition. Talk about patience and practice, getting our canine buddies to mind can be hard enough lol!

Cheers,

-Grant

Welcome Benson and more xmas photos!

We welcomed Benson to Fort Fido this morning. He is a three moth old, couple of pound, Shorkie! He had a terrific time playing upstairs in the Little Roll and boy was he cute. His owners are taking the right steps to keep him on track and make a therapy dog out of him someday. Way to go!

Two more lovely Christmas photos came in this week. One of them is Gracie Anne, a black Miniature Poodle, lounging with Father Christmas. The other photo is of the o-so-popular Rainier sitting with Santy in University Place. Thank you for the pictures.

Have a nice weekend,

-Grant

Rainier!

Rainier has been enjoying himself at Fort Fido almost everyday for over a year. He is a a 50 pound, Catahoula Lepord Dog (a breed for only the most dedicated dog owners) mix that is coming up on his second birthday. Rainier is an extremely smart dog and his antics never cease. His owners work nonstop with him in training, tricks and even some agility! They are doing a wonderful job. Rainier is the Alpha leader of the medium roll and one of his many nick names is "Freckle Nose".

Here is a funny video of Rainier that his owners took. If my memory serves me, he was flustered because he wasn't allowed to be in the dinning room with them at the time. What a joker!

Have a good weekend!

-Grant
