Yesterday we met with the happy and energy-filled Daisey. She is a nine month old, forty-eight pound, Tan and White Colored Pitbull Terrier. Daisey was all "wiggles and wags" as she entered into The Fort's Big Roll. She is a very athletic canine, that is here to socialize and burn off some excess energy... And that's exactly what she did! Daisey was quick to befriend the other dogs, she made playmates effortlessly. Daisey should prove to be a wonderful addition to our Big Roll Pack. She did an outstanding job and we plan to see her more!

This morning, we were up bright and early to Assess Maxx. He is an irresistibly-cute, three month old, twenty-one pound, English Bulldog. This little fella is going to grow up to be one big and strong canine, but for now, he's just a small pup. Maxx is here to hone his canine-communication skills and have a good time exercising. To ease him into the joint, we had Maxx start out in our Medium Roll Play Area. Once inside, he explored eagerly, knowing he'd be meeting with some other canines soon. After letting him get his bearings, we had Maxx meet up with pack members Stella and Max (Mue). That combination of dogs proved to be just perfect for Maxx. They began to wrestle play within minutes of meeting one another. Given strong leadership, time, and consistency, Maxx should grow up to be quite a calm and balanced adult dog. He has a great temperament, and is the perfect age to get into Dog Daycare. He'll get a lot out of socializing at Fort Fido. Welcome Maxx, swell job today pal!
Yesterday had the Fort Fido Team meeting up with, Reggie, for his Assessment. He is a super-sweet, one year old, forty pound, German Shepherd and Terrier Mix. Reggie has had a very tough first year, he was found servery abused, more or less "left for dead", on the side of a road in Texas... After that, he was shuffled between many households and rescues. Now, fortunately for Reggie, he has found a loving forever-home with his new owner. Knowing Reggie's background, we proceeded with much caution during his introduction to our Medium Roll. We were astonished with Reggie's care free and happy disposition, as he wagged his whole body in excitement and sniffed about the play area. When it was time to meet some canines, Reggie did so like a social-butterfly-veteran. We had him meet up with the high-energy Roxy first, and the two canines basically fell in love with each other lol. They play bowed and got into chase-me-games right away. As time moved on and the pack grew, Reggie kept his calm around all of the other dogs, making friends out of almost all of them too easily. We were truly taken back by just how amazing Reggie did here, especially given the whirlwind of drama he's gone through. He is a true testament to dogs, the canine brain, and their resiliency... How they can overcome, adapt, and continue to love is unbelievable. We could all learn a lot from Reggie. :)
Today we had an adorable little dog-guy, named Bentley, in for his Assessment. He is a striking, four month old, seven pound, black and white colored, Maltese, Shih Tzu, and Lhasa Apso Mix. Your normal, happy and healthy puppy, Bentley, was super-ready to go this morning. We headed up to the Little Roll with him, teaching him "stairs" along the way lol. Once in the Small Dog Play Area, Bentley was fascinated with his new found place, and he seemed to know that fun was in store for him. As the pack entered, Bentley greeted each member joyously, but not too rowdily, which is good for a young pup. Some pups get too excitable when meeting other dogs, which leads to them having to be "corrected" by the elder canine. Bentley "fell head over heels" for little Shih Tzu puppy, Emmy, when she arrived. The two dogs played wholeheartedly throughout the day, making the perfect pair. Bentley's owner is doing a fine job with him. He should grow up to be a well balanced and quite social adult canine. Swell job!

Up for his assessment this morning, was little puppy-dog, Tag. He is a fine, two month old, nine pound, American Pit Bull Terrier. He has been brought here to The Fort to learn how to be a good "dog's dog", to play, and to socialize properly. He''ll probably end up being a big boy, but for now he is itty bitty... So much so, that Tag had to stay in our Little Roll for this visit. Up there, he explored a little and did fairly well, but was quite timid around the other canines. At this point, he is more interested in people than dogs. We wanted to see him "bust out", but we had to remind ourselves that it was hit first day and that he is a very young canine. "First Days" can be overwhelming for anybody.
Tag didn't play, however we know he will once given some time and consistency here at Fort Fido. He sure seemed like he wanted to. We commend his owners for socializing him early and getting him on the right track. As everyone knows, Tag's breed is caught up in controversy at times, yet, like any canine raising endeavor, the "nurture" portion, can out way the "nature" portion. It is are belief, that if the upbringing is handled properly, any canine, of any breed, can be social, happy, and healthy.
Most importantly, Tag's owners will need to follow through with their comings and goings, and put in some more work, to ensure that Tag doesn't come down with any Separation Anxiety. When the work gets done, with all who are involved with Tag, there is no doubt that he can become a calm and well balanced canine... Just the kind of dog everybody is after. Good on ya today Tag, we'll see ya around.
