Fonzie was one of our assessments this morning. He's a Terrier mix that weighs twenty two pounds and is only seven months old. This little guy mingled with the dogs in our Small Dog Program and had a great time learning the rules of daycare, and how to hang out with the rest of his new friends.
P.S, does his name make you think of someone- particularly someone who used to be pretty famous?
Yes, Fonzie was named after the coolest "bad boy" around, The Fonz!
Penny was our other adorable assessment. She's an eleven month old, Yorkshire Terrier that weighs eleven pounds! We noticed right away that this girl is very aware of her surroundings; she doesn't miss much. She's a keen dog that had a fun time doing her thing today, and learning where her place is at, within the pack. She even made a new friend with a Wired Fox Terrier, named Bella Adele.
Today we welcomed Jack. Jack is a 7 year-old, 27 lbs., Terrier Mix. Jack seemed up-beat and ready to roll as soon as we got a hold of his leash. We led him upstairs where he took his time getting to know his surroundings and learning that he could relax at The Fort. After he began to relax, Jack showed keen interest in the other dogs. He showed good "dog talk" and got along well with the other pups. With more time here, I think that he would become comfortable and show his playful side.
This morning, a small 22-pound 15 year-old Terrier named Pete cruised into Fort Fido. He went right on up into the small roll and was curious as to why he was there. When the first few pups began to enter into the small roll, Pete learned that this was a place to gather and have fun with other dogs. His tail went up and the socialization began. Pete strolled right through his assessment and he may not have played a lot, but Pete definitely made a lot of friends today. We look forward to having Pete return to The Fort for an even more wonderful day.
Yesterday had the Fort Fido Team meeting up with, Reggie, for his Assessment. He is a super-sweet, one year old, forty pound, German Shepherd and Terrier Mix. Reggie has had a very tough first year, he was found servery abused, more or less "left for dead", on the side of a road in Texas... After that, he was shuffled between many households and rescues. Now, fortunately for Reggie, he has found a loving forever-home with his new owner. Knowing Reggie's background, we proceeded with much caution during his introduction to our Medium Roll. We were astonished with Reggie's care free and happy disposition, as he wagged his whole body in excitement and sniffed about the play area. When it was time to meet some canines, Reggie did so like a social-butterfly-veteran. We had him meet up with the high-energy Roxy first, and the two canines basically fell in love with each other lol. They play bowed and got into chase-me-games right away. As time moved on and the pack grew, Reggie kept his calm around all of the other dogs, making friends out of almost all of them too easily. We were truly taken back by just how amazing Reggie did here, especially given the whirlwind of drama he's gone through. He is a true testament to dogs, the canine brain, and their resiliency... How they can overcome, adapt, and continue to love is unbelievable. We could all learn a lot from Reggie. :)
Today we had an adorable little dog-guy, named Bentley, in for his Assessment. He is a striking, four month old, seven pound, black and white colored, Maltese, Shih Tzu, and Lhasa Apso Mix. Your normal, happy and healthy puppy, Bentley, was super-ready to go this morning. We headed up to the Little Roll with him, teaching him "stairs" along the way lol. Once in the Small Dog Play Area, Bentley was fascinated with his new found place, and he seemed to know that fun was in store for him. As the pack entered, Bentley greeted each member joyously, but not too rowdily, which is good for a young pup. Some pups get too excitable when meeting other dogs, which leads to them having to be "corrected" by the elder canine. Bentley "fell head over heels" for little Shih Tzu puppy, Emmy, when she arrived. The two dogs played wholeheartedly throughout the day, making the perfect pair. Bentley's owner is doing a fine job with him. He should grow up to be a well balanced and quite social adult canine. Swell job!

For Fido welcomed Eddie in for his Assessment today. He is a eight year old, eleven pound, Terrier Mix. This dapper fella, strolled along with us to the Little Roll. Once therein, Eddie strutted around the play area in a calm and confident manner. After having him explore the place solo for a bit, it was time for Eddie to begin to meet the pack. Right away, he met with a handful of our members, communicating with them simply and easily. Eddie didn't play too much but he may in time. He did however, seem to enjoy his time spent here at The Fort. Eddie, well done today lad, we shall meet with you again soon.
This morning The Fort welcomed the clever, Riley, in for his assessment. He is a two year old, about 10 pound, white colored, Miniature Poodle and TerrierMixed Breed. This sharp looking and wiry little fella, headed upstairs with us, to try the Little Roll Play Area on for size. Once therein, Riley met up with the polite Buzzette, followed by introductions to the "Papillion Twins". As the morning progressed and the Little Roll's pack grew in size, Riley continued his care-free contentment. Having pretty good canine communication skills, Riley met with the other dogs easily and readily socialized with them. He is particularly fond of "chase games", which are a perfect activity for him here. First rate job today Riley! You are welcome at Fort Fido.
It was Lucky's day to have his assessment! He is a very original looking, nine month old, ten pound, Dark Brindle, TerrierMix. Lucky is the new "little brother" of Fort Fido regular, Ruby. Recently rescued, Lucky, is certainly living up to his name... His new forever-home and family can't be beat! These folks are dog owners that truly know how to do right by a canine. Compliments to them.
This morning, Lucky was a bit hesitant about stepping into The Fort at first. Once he reached the Little Roll upstairs, he calmed a bit, and was interested in his new surroundings. Like his "big sister" Ruby, Lucky is good at speaking "Dog", understanding just how to communicate with new canine acquaintances. As many of you know, dogs communicate in a myriad of ways, some being quite subtle... And just like people, some canines "speak to each other" better than others lol. Lucky went from meeting and greeting the other dogs, to fun-filled play with several of them, within an instant! Twas a sight to see. Given all that, it's easy for us to say "Welcome to the pack Lucky Dude, see ya soon!"

Meet Roxy! She is a darling, one year old, twenty pound, TerrierMix. This energetic pooch, was eager to give The Fort a try this morning. We led the super-cute Roxy to the Medium Roll, where she began her assessment. Almost right away, she showed off her playful spirit, and first rate canine-communication skills. Border Collie Max, was one of her favorite new pals. Roxy happily played hard, with several different dogs today. It was a pleasure to see her so involved, and "into it", on a first day. Well done Roxy! We look forward to seeing you soon for Overnight Boarding. We're pretty darn sure, you'll have a blast here again.
