Leah

Leah is a well socialized three in a half year old, thirty seven pound Beagle/Fox Terrier mix that joined our Medium Dog Program early Tuesday morning. She was very curious as she first entered her new play area and began to meet her new daycare friends.

Leah's family found her at the Purdy Prison Pet Partnership Program five months ago. The program is a non-profit organization located at the Women's Correction Center in Gig Harbor.

Their goal as an organization is to help train and prepare their inmates for pet-industry related jobs once they resume their lives outside of the prison. Leah was there for a whole year before Char and Bob adopted her.

Fort Fido completely supports the program and  thinks it's a great idea. In fact, we've actually helped them in the past with donations!

All in all, Leah had a great first day at The Fort and is welcome to come back anytime.

Have a wonderful evening,
Shaunte'

Delightful Daisy

Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting this delightful Daisy. Daisy is a 7 month-old, 30 lbs., Aussie Shepherd / Beagle. This Daisy bloomed as soon as she met another dog, within our Medium Dog Program, as if it were already spring. She hit it off with Frankie and fit right in with the others during her stay. Check out some of her play with Frankie below!

We are looking forward to seeing Daisy return for more great times.

Stay happy,
- Zach

Sam & Nessa

Yesterday we met Sam. Sam is a 50-pound, 9 year old, black lab/beagle/bassett mix. He entered Fort Fido as if he had a thousand times before. As he was taken into the medium roll, I saw that his tail was up and his nose on investigate mode sniffing around. I noticed that he did a lot of mingling as well as resting in the medium roll. I am sure that Sam made a few friends thought the day.

Today we met Nessa. Nessa is a 80-pound, 5 year old, yellow lab. I watched her stroll into The Fort this morning and she knew this was a place to let loose and have fun. I saw her all over the large roll with the other pups and she was having a fabulous time with them. Luckily I caught a clip of her playing with Bob Marley. Take a peek below =)

I hope that we see both Sam and Nessie return for more fun soon!

Stay happy,

Jasper

This morning we were happy to greet Jasper. Jasper is a 4 year-old, 12-pound, Beagle/Papillion mix. He quickly entered the front door and was already exploring the lobby as I was meeting him. He was calm and ready as I took him up into the small roll. Within there he was able to socialize and mingle with the pack as the day went by. We are looking forward to seeing Jasper in the future!

Stay warm,

Your a Daisy if you do

This morning the Fort Fido crew assessed Daisy. She is a four month old, thirty pound, orange and white colored, Beagle Mix. Daisy ventured to our Medium Roll play area where she blossomed. She is the quintessential puppy-dog... Cautious, yet curious, excitable, and full of energy. Here at The Fort, Daisy had a really good time. She is doing well at learning how to speak "Dog", and truly enjoys meeting other canines. Daisy's tail seemed to wag constantly while she socialized with the pack. She even got into some one on one play, with a few different canines. We hope Daisy swings by these parts regularly, given her age, she can get a lot out of Dog Daycare. First rate job today Daisy!

Take care,

-Grant

Jasper & JoJo

This morning we had the pleasure of assessing Jasper and JoJo. These neat pooches, from the same family, gave The Fort a go and did well.

Jasper, is a cool-looking, four year old, forty pound, Schnauzer Mix. He entered our Medium Roll with his tail wagging, and it became clear early on that Jasper has socialized with dogs before. Although he didn't play a whole heck of a lot, he seemed fairly comfortable spending time with the pack. He "barked dogs off", when not wanting to play, and exhibited very good bite control. Jasper even had a little "play moment", with Medium Roll regular Emmett.

Jasper's "older sister", JoJo, is a kind, thirteen year old, thirty pound, Beagle. This mature gal, stayed with us in our Little Roll. Up there, JoJo was calm and at peace, she didn't have to worry about many younger or larger dogs bumping into her, or agitating her. JoJo pretty much just lounged around, and also meandered a bit. She really did great for an older canine, not minding the few rowdy, young, whippersnappers that she did cross paths with.

Both Jasper and JoJo are welcome to visit Fort Fido any time they'd like. We hope to see them here again soon.

Be well,

-Grant

== Bodacious Beagle ==

Capping off our busy and New-Dog-filled week, was Beagle. She is a one year old, eighteen pound... Yes, you guessed it... Beagle! Although small in stature, due to coming from a large litter, Beagle is "large" with personality. Because of this, we decided to try her in The Fort's Medium Roll. This way, she will be able to get much more out of her Dog Daycare experience. Sometimes we must match groups of dogs by their play-styles and energy levels, rather than just their size. After a little bit of "meeting & greeting" with the pack, Beagle was swiftly on to play. She's quite the social-butterfly, seemingly interested in every single canine she comes across. Beagle did an awesome job today and we hope to see her here again in the future.
Here is Little Miss Beagle gallivanting with the likes of Georgie, Mac, and others.

Cheers,

Belated Happy Halloween

From the "D-Man" Diego... Belated because of me, not him lol. The photos are, "The Balancing Act", "Happy Halloween", apparently that is how he greeted trick or treaters lol, and "Winning" featuring his loot from the contest.

What a fright and how fun! Great pictures dude, thank you kindly. Also, congratulations on your second place finish in Fort Fido's first annual costume contest. Which, by the way, will be much improved next year. With good input, given to us from several of our customers. We will now be able to workout some of the "kinks" that were in this years contest. Let's just say, we will be "leveling the playing field" next time around. A special thanks goes out to our manager, Hope, for coming up with the grand idea and laying the groundwork. Awesome job!

Take it easy and enjoy your weekend!

-Grant
P.S. Speaking of contests, this one, with a bit of a different flavor, caught my attention yesterday. Hahaha! None of my customers will be entering that one. ;)

:( Diego Pic & Links

From the Diego camp... Here he is brandishing his new Steelers collar he got for Christmas, one of his owners is from Pittsburgh. I told his owner we wouldn't let him get sacked too hard in the Medium Roll, good thing all collars come off before play lol. Folks around these parts have a hard time forgetting 2006 (Refresh your memory with the "Reaction to officiating" portion) hahaha. Thanks for the picture! Click it to enlarge.

Season's Greetings from Diego & Miller

We received two awesome Christmas cards/photos recently (Click them to enlarge).

One from Diego. He is looking as sharp as ever posin' in front of the tree. Note that he is sporting some holiday accessories. So Vogue lol!

The other is from Main Man Miller. I think this one is spectacular, the card is an ornament that you can actually hangup. Miller is a natural dog-model putting on his best "Blue Steel" for this winter warming pic.

THANKS YOU TWO!!

- New Data -

Data was in for his assessment early this morning. He is a eleven month old, twenty-two pound, Beagle. Data did tremendously well today. He has attended Dog Daycare since he was six months old, we are certain that had something to do with why he did so great ;). The Medium Roll is where his owner said he'd do the best, she was right, Data loved it! He made many friends and will continue to do so since there are several, similar to his size/age/play-style, in the roll. Good job today Data, you are welcome anytime and we hope to see you again soon!

In the clip that follows, Data, or dare I say Buddha, may have met his match! These two hit it off like crazy because they are practically the same age and breed, most definitely the same energy level. It will be interesting to see how Data and Diego get along?

Take it easy,

-Grant
P.S. O yeah, Data was named after The Goonies and Star Trek characters, very cool lol!

Awesome Annie!

This morning Annie, a cute little tan Beagle, came in for her first day here at the Fort. While she hasn't busted out with all the moves just yet, she was a good greeter and enjoyed hanging out with the pack. There was definitely no trouble out of this little lady! She''ll be back again tomorrow to see the Saturday crew.

Here's a clip of Annie being "courted" by Rat Terrier Koji. She almost began to play, but settled on just wagging her tail happily, enjoying the attention. Hopefully with time and consistency she comes a little further out of her shell!

a bit about the KING KONGS

Kongs are really great dog toys that are made in the USA.

Kongs can help you and your dog in many ways. There are various ways to utilize the Kong toy, they come in different sizes and styles for different dogs.

For puppies, they can relieve teething pain, suffice their need to chew, strengthen the jaw and help set their new adult teeth.

For other dogs, Kongs can be used as jaw aerobics, they can help relieve anxiety through chewing. They can be a wonderful training aid, used as a treat or even thrown and retrieved. Kong toys entertain and satisfy many dogs. You can even boil them in chicken or beef stock to enhance the smell and flavor. Kongs can be stuffed with carrots, peanut butter, cheese, Kumpi (kibble) or even frozen yogurt. Freezing a Kong lengthens the chewing time.

Today we caught new puppy Buddha chewing on a Kong. As you can see he loves it.

Hope you had a nice holiday,

-Grant
