Fun Phoebe & Finn!

Feast your eyes on these two cuties, Phoebe and Finn, who had their assessments this morning. Phoebe is a pretty, six year old, ten pound, black and white colored, Havanese. Finn is a handsome, eleven month old, nine pound, red/sable /white colored, Havanese. Their "Uncle Jesse" has hung out at The Fort before, so naturally, Phoebe and Finn had to give it a try...

Phoebe and Finn came into the lobby full of joy, and proceeded to sniff-about curiously. From there, they scampered up to the Little Roll to get settled in. After some time, they began to meet the pack, greeting with the other dogs in a polite and friendly matter. Fitting in rather well with the group, Phoebe and Finn are pleasant little dogs, that remained calm and balanced during their stay. Although we didn't see too much "play" out of Phoebe and Finn, they did do a bit, and seemingly enjoyed the Dog Daycare Experience. Finn chased after some toys, and played with Phoebe some, both dogs enjoyed our play-toy-slide. We think that Phoebe and Finn can extract even more fun out of Fort Fido, and possibly, even bust out into some more "rigorous play", during future visits. Phoebe and Finn are welcome to stay with us anytime, and we plan on seeing the duo again.

Take it easy,

-Grant

- In memory of Athena -

Yesterday we received the very unfortunate news that, Athena, long time Fort Fido regular, passed away. Sadly, Athena had health issues from the very beginning of her life, which compounded as she got older. Despite this, she was one amazing and active dog that attended The Fort for many years. You would never know she had health issues if you met her.

Athena was a Great Dane, and a high-energy one at that! Having a large and fun-loving personality, she took on any and all canines that would befriend her. Some of her best buds were Finn and Theodore. Her play style was surprisingly fast furious, especially for being such a big girl. She loved coming to Doggie Daycare, and we are quite proud to have been a part of her life, and specifically, one of many parts that she truly enjoyed. Rest in peace friend,

-Grant, David, Nancy & all of the Fort Fido staff.

Please follow THIS LINK, then begin to scroll down (past this post), for pictures, video clips, and all blog posts related to Miss Athena. definitely check it out, there is some great stuff.

Also, as always, I like to post a link to The Rainbow Bridge Poem when these heart wrenching events occur. The poem can be appreciated by most, and helpful for some.

P.S. In other, not sad news, our Soggy Doggy Event is these evening. Be sure to swing by and say hello!

Fantastic Finn

Our Assessment Dog today was Finn. He is a fun-loving, four month old, twenty pound, Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Finn headed on over to the Medium Roll, where he absolutely flourished! He had thought that he had died, and gone to "Doggy Heaven" lol. Finn thoroughly enjoyed practicing his social skills here today. Luckily for him, there was a plethora, of perfectly matched dogs, for him to practice with. Finn made several new canine friends, having a most terrific stay. Good on ya Finn! We have a feeling we'll be seeing you again soon. For now, you can relive your fun, and dog filled moments from today, in the following clips.

Here is Finn wrestling with Blue and Jackson.

In this one, Finn is sprinting about with the wily Max.

Cheers,

Happy Friday Clips

Four fun clips from today, three from the Medium Roll (It was game-on in there today lol) and one from the Big.

Bogie, KC and Zipper romped for quite some time this morning.

Pupcake took on young buck Zipper for some vigorous play as well.

Finn and brother Ozzy were up to their normal, knuckle-headed games, in the Big Roll haha.

Buddha hadn't been in for awhile but came back today for some Fort Fido action. Welcome back old buddy, it sure looks like you had a blast today.

Please enjoy your weekend, it's gonna be nice out!

-Grant

P.S. If you are looking for something to do this weekend... Why not hit up one of The 79th Annual Daffodil Festival Parades? The Band and I will be in first rate form, come say hello. It is a fun-filled day of spring and a true South Puget Sound tradition.

My heartfelt condolences to all involved in the Daffodil Festival... Specifically the Queen, Princesses, friends and family of Miss Alexandria Cole. Rest in peace dear.

How could I forget to mention...

The Fort's newest puppy dog Ozzy. He is the baby brother of long time Fort Fido friend Finn. Whoa! That was a lot of alliteration lol.

This guy is super social (due to the fact that he has his own pack at home) and is doing very well in our Big Roll with his Big Brother. Ozzy is a seven month old, thirty pound, Yellow Labrador Retriever.

It's great when we acquire a new young dog that already has the "dynamics of the pack" down well. We look forward to seeing more of Ozzy, he is a great addition!

Happy Monday,

-Grant
P.S. Don't forget to checkout Finn's Website and help him win the fight!

All aboard ! ! !

There is another new puppy in the house! Long time Fort Fido supporter Finny has got a new member in his pack. His name is Ozzie and he's just a wee Yellow Lab baby right now, he's not even ready for The Fort yet. Finn and Ozzie's owner Rob sent me this great clip of them playing together from his cell phone. What technology lol! When I converted the clip to play on the computer the quality went down, my apologies, either way it's cute!

Take it easy,

-Grant
P.S. If you haven't already, checkout Finn's Website. It's for a great cause. Also, checkout the Kumpi Pet Food site. I talked to Evy yesterday and she said she added some neat stuff. Specifically the "False Science Alert" at the top, definitely read that. By the way, Kumpi is Gluten-Free and has never had a recall ever, that's huge! :)

Finn's Fight

Our pal Finn is a Fort Fido good ol' boy lol. He has been coming to The Fort for quite some time. If you search for "Finn" on our blog you will find many clips of him tearing it up! We really enjoy Finn, he is a very well balanced member of our Big Roll pack. He ain't bad looking either ;). Unfortunately, Finny suffers from Canine Epilepsy... The good news is that his owners have started a wonderful non-profit organization called Finn's Fight! Their goal is to raise awareness of Canine Epilepsy and to raise money for families that can't afford the medication (it is very expensive so many pets suffer or get put down). They plan on having some local doggie dashes as well as other events to get the ball rolling. Finn already has 600 friends on facebook, wowza! Way to go Finn, Cheryl and Rob. Keep up the good fight!

Have a nice weekend,

-Grant

Paddleboarding Finny!

Finn's mom Cheryl sent me these wonderful photos of her and Finny Paddleboarding! Apparently Finny just loves it... They like to cruise around their place on Harstine Island. I just recently saw this sport for the first time and was intrigued, it looks like something fun that almost anyone could do with a little practice (I could be wrong lol). Enjoy the photos, cheers,

-Grant
P.S. Here are a couple more cool Paddleboarding links: East Coast Paddlesurfing & Wikipedia Paddleboarding.

dog age chart, beer, Bella & Finn

Hey everybody,

Our Manager Hope has had a number of great blog posts this week, check them out if you haven't already.

I found this awesome dog age chart last weekend and had to share it. I'm so used to the old, one year for us = seven years for them ratio. This is obviously much more accurate.

This next link may not be for everyone but I got a chuckle out of it, I bring you, "Dogs with Beer" hahaha.

*Fort Fido, LLC does not condone giving your dog beer or any alcohol for that matter, these are just funny photos... Although some people say a bit of beer every once in awhile is good for the coat, seriously, we've heard that a couple times lol. I imagine this would be a better alternative (non-alcoholic)*

Enjoy the sun,

-Grant
P.S. Here is a clip of Finn the Yellow Lab having a super time with a pretty Great Dane named Bella. Finny has this crazy love affair with Danes haha, enjoy!

They're Massive!

Stumbled upon this article today... It will be neat to see if he gets the
new record. Boomer has to beat this guy Gibson (above) for the title of worlds tallest dog. Holly cow, we thought Astro and Athena were big!

Here is a clip of Athena mixing it up with her boyfriend, a striking yellow lab named Finn. I guess opposites do attract lol. Athena is a sweetheart, even if she happens to be the most rambunctious Great Dane we have ever come across.

Cheers,

-Grant

P.S. It was Finn's second Birthday yesterday. Happy birthday Finny, stay outta these now!
