Photoshoot Friday

Hurray it's Friday! I was feelin camera happy today so I decided to take a bunch of cute photos of your guys pups. Check 'em out, I hope they put a smile on your face. :)

Two cowpokes entered the saloon...

Errr... I mean, The Fort!

Get a load of buckaroos Gus and Hank.

These two merry "brothers", had the most comical entrance into the Big Roll play area, that I've seen in some time... They were both so happy and excited to be here, you would have thought they'd been here for fun, many times before. Their extremely cheerful personalities were a joy to see in the early morning, especially for a new-dog-assessments.

Gus is a two year old, seventy-eight pound, Yellow Labrador Retriever.

Hank is a four year old, seventy-eight pound, Yellow Labrador Retriever.


Luckily, telling the two apart isn't hard... The more "mature", Hank, has a golden color on him, while Gus does not. Personality wise, Gus and Hank are quite similar, with Gus being slightly more active. Both Gus and Hank are very gregarious. They're your "outgoing" type of canines, that just want to find their niche within the pack, and have a good time. Gus and Hank interacted with numerous dogs, seemingly into any that would take them on. We are pleased with Gus and Hank's social skills, they are welcome to drop into Fort Fido anytime they'd like.

In the clips that follow, Gus and Hank, mix it up in the Big Roll with fast-players Odin, Samwise, and Gertrude.

Naptime at The Fort

Naptime, or quiet time, here at The Fort, is an essential part of the day. After socializing and playing in the morning, it is important for dogs to relax and unwind. In the afternoon, once the energy level rises, the socializing and play continues. It is unhealthy for dogs to go all day without rest. Tired, overly stimulated dogs can become cranky and uncoordinated. This can cause them to become more susceptible to disagreements or injury. Healthy canines play hard and rest well.

Below, you will find some great pics of a few dogs "resting well" here at Fort Fido.

Hearty Hank

Now meet Hank! He is an eight year old, one hundred & fifteen pound, Black Labrador Retriever. He and his owner reside in Oregon, but every so often have to travel North for business. Rather than stay in a hotel, Hank gets to come to Fort Fido. Lucky Dog!

Hank is one good ol' boy. He entered into the Big Roll with style and ease... That's pretty darn awesome for an "older fella". Hank was cool, calm, and collected. This well adjusted canine has mastered the fine art of dog communication. We enjoyed having him here and he certainly had a lot of fun here. Hank played quite a bit, and carried himself with the flair of a long-time pack member. Swell job Hank, way to keep up with some of them youngin's.

``` Daring Dwayne ```

Please welcome little Dwayne to The Fort. He is a ten month old, thirteen pound, Miniature Poodle-Shih Tzu-Yorkie Mix that assessed this morning. Dwayne was named after "The Rock" AKA Dwayne Johnson, striking resemblance hehe? I remember watching that Rock fella back in my WWF (now WWE) days as a middle-schooler lol... Fake wrestling, how funny, it's entertaining as a lad. A soap opera for men if you will haha. Anywho, back to our new pal. He did just fantastic upstairs in the Little Roll! Dwayne has the longest eyelashes we have ever seen, he is quite dapper. When the dogs started to pour in, he was quick to greet them with positive energy and exaggerated play-bows. Dwayne spoke awesome "Dog" for a pup and truly seemed to thrive here. We plan on seeing him again. Way to go Dwayne, you are welcome back anytime and ya definitely smell what The Rock is cookin, I couldn't resits posting that, it was The Rock's famous line. ;)

Take a gander at this clip of Dwayne. Unfortunately it doesn't do him justice. He was really going at it with Fendi but every time the camera came out he stopped. That's how it goes a lot of times. :(

Happy Hanky

Hank was in for his assessment this morning. He is a very handsome and regal looking six month old, thirty-five pound, Doberman Pinscher.

When meeting Hank, it is clear to see that he is the epitome of a successful breeding program. It shows not only in his physical body but in his temperament. We have seen a handful of Dobermans over the years but none like this, none as balanced. They are a very powerful breed that have a "tough" reputation. In the wrong hands, like any breed, they can be dastardly. Hank played surprisingly well in the Medium Roll. He greeted the dogs perfectly and enjoyed his stay immensely. A very playful pup, Hank is welcome at Fort Fido anytime. We commend his owners for doing their research on this breed and finding a very reputable breeder. Outstanding job today Hank, see ya soon!

Last but certainly not least, in the Big Roll, old man Hanky takes on young buck Briggs. Unfortunately we were unable to edit out a Lulu poo in the background... This video clip was too good, so we let it go. Sorry lol. ;)

Celebration Hank Style

Yesterday, Hank and his owners celebrated their three year anniversary... Three years of attending Fort Fido :). They were so kind, bringing in dog treats to share as well as balloons. Thank you Margaret and Lynn and of course Hank, for being such wonderful customers. We truly appreciate your business, you have been so kind and supportive over the years.

Two Great Assessments

On Monday, we assessed a sweet Golden Retriever named Chloe. Chloe is a rescue dog that is seven years old and about 66 pounds. She did pretty decent in the Big Roll.

This morning Hank came in for his assessment. He is a eight month old, 56 pound, Dutch Shepherd (Haven't had this breed in here before, quite striking!) Mix. Hank is good boy, he played in the Big Roll and seemed to enjoy himself.

We hope these new friends of The Fort will return for another visit soon.

Toby

Our assessment this morning was Toby and he did very well. He is a one year old, 65 pound, brindle, Shar-Pei/Mastiff/Boxer/who knows mix lol. Although high energy, he is a good looking animal, has been to daycare before and speaks darn good "Dog". We here at the fort believe Toby is a 50/50 mix of Shar-Pei and Boxer. The Shar-Pei is definite, very obvious in the face. The boxer, on the other hand, stands out in Toby's play style. The Boxer breed is known for it's unique play style. It uses an upright stance while frequently batting with it's paws (quite like a human boxer).


Here is a clip of Toby playing with the first dog he met this morning, Hank, they really hit it off! Hank tends to be a pretty good judge of character too! :)
