Courageous Kalohe

Kalohe, is an extremely adorable and fierce little, Fawn-Colored, English Bulldog puppy. He had his assessment early this morning. This little guy is full of spunk and courage, he had no qualms about taking on our Medium Roll. From Dobermans to Labradors, Kalohe, played hard and long with many different pack members. We sent him home quite tired lol! Dog Daycare will be very beneficial to Kalohe for his early socialization. We are pleased to take care of him, while helping him grow into a well-balanced adult dog. Lucky for us, Kalohe will be boarding with us soon, we can't wait! This pup is too cute for his own good and a lot of fun in one tough package.

Checkout these two fantastic clips of the ever-so-active Kalohe, meeting Finley (Kelsey's new puppy) and Emily.

Mac Daddy MacGruber

Meet MacGruber! He is a bold, three year old, sixty-five pound, German Shepherd Mix. MacGruber, or "Mac" for short, is a neat canine and a Dog Daycare veteran. He attended doggie daycare quite frequently in his old home state of Virginia. Mac did very well in Fort Fido's Big Roll today. During his stay, he interacted with several different pack members and seemed to take pleasure in his visit. MacGruber is welcome to get his social-fix on at The Fort anytime. Hopefully, we will have him in here again soon.

Take care,

-Grant
P.S. Unfortunately, Mac's picture does not do him justice... He was excited to start "Meeting and Greeting", he didn't want to pose for a pic and I don't blame him. 99% of the time, we just get lucky with our dog badge pictures lol.

From weird and wacky to touching and heartfelt--it's the Dog News Roundup!

Today's stories span a wide range of animal related incidents. We'll start off with the weird, since I really love a good laugh.

Paul Casey found that his golf game really had gone to the dogs, when an adorable little terrier mix (it appears, anyway) made off with his ball as he was eyeing a putt! Just goes to show that while playing gold, expect the unexpected.

A Utah man believed that he was being phoned by burglars, only to discover that it was his own pooch that placed the call!

To raise awareness about the election for the House of Commons in Canada, a man has filed paperwork for his pooch Genny to run for Parliament. She has tried her hand at paw-litics in the past, running for mayor of Clarington, Ontario.

In a bid to raise awareness of the extreme over-population of shelters in Miami, a man decided to live in one of the kennel runs for a weekend. The goal is to get all the pups in the shelter adopted during his "incarceration."

Moving on to the amazing--

A microchip has reunited a pup with her family after a five year separation. Every time I read one of these stories, I want to remind everyone I know with a pet that something that costs only about $15 can really be the make-or-break of whether you get to see your beloved pet again. Without collar or tags, pups can be picked up and re-homed, or much much worse.

A six-month-old pup fell four stories--without breaking any bones. He was quite shaken up, and walking is difficult (not to mention the concussion that has impacted his eyesight), but these problems are only temporary. It's amazing to me that any animal could survive that kind of a fall!

When you are laid up in the hospital, it's always nice to have unexpected people drop by to check in, and express their concern and well-wishes. One New York man got such a visit-- from his dog, who had escaped the house and yard to travel over two miles through confusing neighborhood streets and across freeways to come and find him at the hospital. Now that is love!

In the category of  "super cute," seven Cheetah cubs were born at a zoo in the UK. Make sure you click this link and see the video of these amazing animals.

Have a great weekend, and we'll be seeing you back on Monday!

-Hope

P.S.-- If you know somebody who is looking for a feline addition to the household, King County Regional Animal Services is waiving the adoption fee for cats six months and older through October 31st. These cats are all spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped.

♥☺ Laid-back Luke☺♥

These are not the droids you're looking for!
Today we got to meet laid-back Luke, an eight-year-old Black Labrador with dashing salt-and-pepper accents to his mostly black fur. He had a good day here with us--there was a lot of tail-waggin, butt-sniffin action, and he got to meet a lot of new people! Most of today was spent getting the lay of the land and greeting each dog politely. His calm energy today was really refreshing.

Although he's not in the foreground in these clips, you can see Luke's great manners on display as he greets other pups in the big roll.

In this first clip we see Buddy, Violet and Juno playing, and toward the end Luke comes to see what's up and introduce himself.

This next clip features Buddy again (good to see that he's excited to stay the weekend with us!), this time tearing it up with Zeus. Luke can be spotted among the dogs watching Nancy write some notes for the next shift!

I'm sure that once he gets a better feel for the Fort Fido flow, he'll be busting out the moves in no time. He was definitely an eager, friendly face and a welcome addition to our pack.

We'll be seeing you again bright and early tomorrow!

Big Pup Action!

Today the big roll kept it action-packed and fun, each finding other pups who enjoyed their own particular play style. Play styles have a lot of individual personality! Check out this first clip of "Gentle Giants" Theodore and Tilly. Theodore is an eight month old Great Dane, and Tilly a ten month old Bull mastiff. Tilly sure has grown since she first started attending daycare! I remember the tiny 30 pound 12-week-old that we first met--they really do grow up fast.

Theodore also got along swimmingly with Labrador Red, playing fair and letting the smaller pup "win" the game. Dogs at play often take turns and enjoy playing different parts in the game, it's more fun to try different things, right?

The last clip today is a great shot of three different pairs at play-- first Flash and Jack (and if you peek back into the medium side, Thorn and Jackson), then Red and Tilly, followed up by an appearance from Violet and Tobey, with Flash and Jack once more to bring us full circle!

These guys, and many more, had a great day here today. I can bet there are going to be quite a few pups ready for dinner and a nap by tonight!

Vivacious Violet

If you haven't noticed... We love adjectives and alliteration around here, especially when new dogs come in lol! We joke about it often and it has stuck. :)

Meet Violet! She is a mighty-fine, one year old, forty-five pound, Liver & White Colored, German Shorthaired Pointer. This lively gal had her assessment early this morning and hung out with us in our Big Roll. Violet is a awesome young dog that is visiting from Longview Washington. Her situation, is the perfect example of Dog Daycare being wonderful for early socialization. Violet got right to it with the pack. She knew what she was here to do; learn, play and enjoy herself, she did all three of those things with gusto! Violet, you are welcome to attend The Fort anytime. We can't wait to meet with you again. Too bad you are from out of town, if you need a reference for your resume, let us know haha!

In the following clip, Violet is having a bit of fun with Gage and Ryker, among others.

Take care,

-Grant

Fido's Favorite Spots

I've compiled a mini list of Fido's Favorite "Dog Spots" in and around University Place. Here they are, in no particular order.

1. The Chambers Bay Trail & Dog Park

This doggy gem is located off of Grandview. Take an hour to walk your pooch along the stunningly beautiful, scenic, paved-trail, that snakes along  the Chambers Bay properties and it's golf course. Stop by the off-leash dog park sponsored by SUNDogs and let your dog socialize, while you take a rest on one of their benches. Water, for humans and canines, is located in a couple of spots along the trail and at the dogpark. After your workout-walk and dog park visit, you and your furry pal will be nice and tired. Trust me on that!

2. The Soggy Doggy / U.P. Best Pet Grooming

This self-serve dog washing facility is first rate. Marco Polo, Cortez and Gibson have all gave it a go. The staff is friendly and the equipment you use is of a very high quality. From a quick bath, to a full on groom with all the bells and whistles, you can D-I-Y it at The Soggy Doggy. They are Located off of 40th, not too far from Safeway. Also, don't fret if you don't know how to bathe or groom. The staff is happy to teach you and it's a fun environment to learn in. Talk about the perfect stop to make after a rockin' time with your pet at the bay. If I haven't convinced you to give this place a try, do hit up University Place Best Pet Grooming for your canine-cleaning needs. I hear they do a mighty fine job, several of our customers take their pets there and are quite pleased with the results.

3. Fircrest Vetinary Hospital

Well ya know, "The Vet", isn't always the funnest spot to be for you and yours, however, if you are in need of Professional Veterinarian services, do hit up the friendly folks at Fircrest Vet Hospital. Located right next door to Fort Fido. Fircrest Veterinary Hospital, ran by Dr. Eugenio and his staff (Angie, James, Katie, Sean, etc... Sorry if I missed you!), is absolutely superb. The doc's bedside manner is impeccable and his staff's skills are unbeatable. You and your pet will feel at ease under this facilitys care. Dr. Eugenio started working as a vet tech at 15 years old! Needless to say, this place is amazing and they know their stuff. Please give them a try.

4. Chopper's Pet Supply

Now as you know, for food, the only thing you need is Kumpi lol. If you are looking for Lupine collars and leads, look no further than The Fort. We have the largest selection of Lupine around, period. Did I mention we also have great deals on All-Natural Bully Sticks, Antler chews and other products we enjoy? Ok, enough plugging us, this last spot is supposed to be about Chopper's, but hey, it is our Blog after all ;). The truth is, we just dabble in the retail, due to the size of our lobby. This is unlike Chopper's Pet Supply in Fircrest. They specialize solely in the best dog and cat supplies you can find! They have a wonderfully wide selection of top notch pet products and their staff certainly knows what good customer service is all about. We highly recommend Chopper's, especially if your dog can't eat Kumpi for some unfortunate reason.

Cheers,

-Grant
