This little cutie trotted her way into our Small Dog Program early Tuesday morning. As you can see, Lucy is quite the looker. She's a seven month old, five pound Pomeranian mix. Lucy was somewhat shy at first but as her assessment process continued throughout the morning, she seemed to come out of her shell and showed her true energetic self, hanging amongst her new doggie friends.
Latte was today's assessment and she passed with flying colors. Unlike Lucy, Latte is not a puppy. She's a twelve year old Labrador Retriever that weighs seventy pounds. Latte doesn't let her age defy her energy though. She kept up with the younger dogs and even made a few new friends. It looks like that energetic personality trait is something that her and Lucy have in common. What's nice about Fort Fido is that whether your dog is big or small, young are old, we have a specific program for them. All good and healthy dogs are welcome here! We don't let age get in the way. Restless came in for his assessment yesterday morning. Restless is a 4-month-old, 5-pound, Pomeranian & American Eskimo mix. Restless came into Fort Fido easy-going and curious, he wondered what The Fort was all about. Restless entered the small roll and promptly began to meet other pups, he learned that Fort Fido is a place to unwind, enjoy, and mingle at. Restless definitely had an awesome time and we look forward to seeing him return for some more fun.
We were certainly "busy beavers" this morning... Fort Fido welcomed three newcomers in for their assessments!
Get to know the mini-pack that is Maye Maye, Milo, and Otis.
Maye Maye is a six year old, twenty pound, beige and white colored, Lhasa Apso/Cocker Spaniel Mix. She did well upstairs, in the Little Roll, and seemed to dig the experience. Maye Maye's a smart canine that reminds us a bit of Fort regular, Mimi.
Milo is a five year old, twenty-five pound, brindle marked, Dachshund Mix. He's a sharp looking dog that also did a good job here today, with his "sister" Maye Maye, in the Little Roll. Milo was very watchful over his "mini-pack" members. He too, enjoyed his stay.
Last but certainly not least, was Otis. He is a five year old, thirty-two pound, beige colored, Pomeranian Mix. Now Otis seemed to have the most "big brother" energy, out of the trio. He watched over his "siblings", as a big brother traditionally would. He socialized well, and was quite eager to meet with incoming pack members. Although none of the three dogs played too much, as it can be a lot to take in on a first day... Otis, was definitely the most active. He frolicked and meandered about the Little Roll play area in high spirits.
Maye Maye, Milo, and Otis are welcome to come back to Fort Fido anytime. We plan on meeting with them again soon.
This isn't too "action packed", but in the following clip, you can spot each member of the "trio".

Get a load of Cooper, what a cutie, talk about striking a pose! He is a four month old, eleven pound, Pomeranian/ Miniature Australian Shepherd Mix, that had his assessment this morning.
Cooper hung out with us and The Pack in our Little Roll, where he did an absolutely outstanding job. He wasted no time getting in on the action. Cooper went straight to meeting and greeting, then went right into play with any canine that was game. He even got in on Nancy's Skinneeez Fox Huntin game lol! This little puppy boy was a lot of fun to have at The Fort today. We are thrilled that he had such a blast here. Cooper, you are welcome back anytime my man. Well done!
My mom, Nancy, was researching Spitz Breeds (some of her favorites) over the weekend and I learned many things from her about them. I had no idea there were so many breeds that fell into this category. We have a number of Spitz-types at Fort Fido including; Huskies, Malamutes, American Eskimos, Akitas, Samoyeds, Pomeranians and Basenjis, just to name a few. The defining characteristics of the canines in this group are, a very fox or wolf-like appearance, with pointy ears and tails that curl up onto the back.
Now, to the best part of Nancy's research. After thumbing through our dog books and visiting numerous websites, she stumbled upon this day-making gem.
Performing Japanese Spitz
Wow! This had me cracking up... If only I could find a half-dozen more American Eskimos... Got a good start with Buddy and Mollie hahaha!
This last Tuesday (the 26th) we had an assessment that I didn't mention. Check this guy out, his name is Tank! Tank's Aunty Stella attends The Fort and now he has joined the pack upstairs in the Little Roll. He is a one year old, 13 pound, Pomeranian Mix. Tank did very well with the other dogs, he even sprinted and played a bit. We hope to see him more often!
