Chester

In all the years Fort Fido has been around (nine), we've had some very large canines stay with us. Oddly enough however, we've never had in the large iconic breed, popularly known for being a rescuer and comedian, the Saint Bernard, until now... Yesterday we got to Assess Chester. He is a one year old, 110 pound, St. Bernard. Lucky for us, Chester, was a pleasure to have in The Fort's Big Roll. We didn't run into him acting out any "Beethoven-esque" antics with the pack lol. He spoke very good "Dog" for a young adult canine, and really enjoyed his time spent here. Chester made friends with the other dogs within minutes of meeting them. Although he's a dog of very large stature, he is quite gentle and doesn't play too hard. Chester will be a lovely addition to our Big Roll pack, and we hope to see him regularly. Well done Chester, you are a fine specimen of your breed, it was cool to finally meet one of ya.

Here, Chester gets a bit of fun in with Shep.

Shep

Yesterday we met the proud Shep. He is a recently rescued, five year old, one hundred pound, black and tan colored, German Shepherd. New "brother" of Fort Fido regular, Lucy, Shep came into the lobby calm, and most ready to start his day. In the Big Roll, he kept cool and showed a pleasant confidence. It's clear that Shep has socialized with other canines many times before... As the pack arrived, he met with each member in the proper way, exhibiting very good canine communication skills. Shep got into lots of play in a short amount of time, taking on some of our most "rowdy" and regular Big Rollers, including, Nevada, Jack McCoy, Reilly and Theodore, just to name a few. All in all, Shep did downright awesome, and we were really happy for him, his owner, and his new "sister" Lucy. I'll let the following clips, from yesterday, speak for themselves.

Shep may visit us here at The Fort whenever he'd like, welcome dude!

Take it easy,

P.S. Ah, here's one more clip, from today, of Shep and Lucy, interacting at Daycare together. Fun!

Welcoming more pups to the pack!

This morning we welcomed Thavy, an 8 year old yellow lab. Who was very nice and spoke great dog, but wasn't super quick to jump into play mode. She did sniff around and start to learn the abundance of new smells. During her morning visit she met the other members of her new pack while settling into the daycare environment. I'm sure that The Fort will become more comfortable as she stays with us this weekend, and she will grow to be a valuable member of the pack.
We also welcomed Dax's brother Shep to the pack today. He is a 3 year old Australian Cattle Dog. Nosing around the fences and getting to know the other dogs smells was his mission today. Even though he did not play much, Shep started building his social skills in a positive way, which will help him make tons of new friends here at The Fort. Dax showed him that even though its a new place, it was a fun place, and by playing for a short time, helped Shep be more and more comfortable as the day progressed.
