- Elsa -

Today Fort Fido's team met up with, Elsa, bright and early for her assessment. She is a spunky, seven month old, sixty pound, Rottweiler. This high-energy young canine, is coming to The Fort to hone her social skills and drain off some of her extra energy. Elsa had surgery about a month back, and has been a bit cooped-up and sedated ever since... However, you'd never know it by the looks of her! She was ready and raring to go this morning, especially after being introduced to the Big Roll Play Area. Inside, Elsa wiggled and wagged her whole body, happily greeting each and every pack member that arrived. For a young dog that hasn't been too socialized, she did a darn good job at "meeting and greeting". Elsa even made friends, and played, with Chedder, and several others, within minutes of her arrival.

We believe that Elsa can grow up into a very social, calm and well balanced adult dog. Rottweilers, are what we here at The Fort call, "a lot of dog". In the wrong hands, and with the wrong set of "rules", they can quickly become unpleasant and hard to manage. The reason, is because they are an extremely smart, strong, and athletic "Power Breed"... One with brute-strength, and a headstrong attitude, particularly, when in the presence of weak leadership. Given time, consistency, a strict routine, and very strong leadership, today's Elsa can thrive. Fort Fido is happy to have her join our ranks because she had a really good time here. We hope that she can be kept on the right track and can continue to blossom. You go girl!

P.S. We have plenty of room here at Fort Fido on Superbowl Sunday. Several of our customers are in Arizona for the game, and many more will be dropping their canines off for Daycare and or Overnight Boarding around Sunday... You know... To keep them out of the queso dip lol! Feel free to have your canine pal join us.

P.P.S. That reminds me, if you are having or attending a party for the Big Game, please keep Fido out of the snacks! Make sure your friends and family do the same. Monday after the Superbowl tends to be a Dog-Daycare-Diarrhea-Fest, and nobody wants that. Here, dogs with diarrhea get crated, and don't get to play as much, nobody wants that either. ;)

Maximum Mitis

Holy smokes! Get a load of this big fella, Mitis. He is a strong, two year old, one hundred and thirty pound, Rottweiler. We assessed Mr. Mitis this morning in the Big Roll, obviously, lol... Once inside, Mitis was quite curious about his news surroundings. He greeted pack members in a healthy manner, and spoke decent "dog". Mitis even played a little bit with Reilly and Stasha. We would like to see Mitis on a regular basis, so that he could become even more comfortable here, and hone his social skills. We believe Mitis can get a lot out of Dog Daycare and Overnight Boarding at The Fort.

- Bona fide Buddy -

Our newest recruit, Buddy, had his assessment this morning. He is a nice, three year old, seventy-five pound, Rottweiler and Labrador Retriever Mix. A Dog Daycare Veteran, Buddy acted happy and excited upon entering The Fort's Big Roll. I believe a bit of deja vu set in for Buddy, because he totally seemed as if he'd been here to play before. As more and more members of the Big Roll Pack arrived, Buddy was ecstatic. He speaks pretty good "DOG", which allows him to make friends quickly and easily. Buddy played with a few different canines including Beau, Kingsley, Marty, and others. With that said, Buddy is welcome back anytime. Good stuff!

- Titan -

 

Meet Titan! He is a adorable, three month old, twenty-five pound Rottweiler. This young pup did well for his first day. He even played a good bit in the Medium Roll. Titan is welcome to attend The Fort anytime... And we definitely hope he will. He is going to be one large and powerful canine, honing his social skills here at Fort Fido will be quite beneficial to him. One neat fact about Titan, is that his "cousin" is Big Roll longtime-regular, Miss Bella The Boxer. She is the perfect teacher for Titan. I'm certain their paths will cross in here soon!

- Competent Cooper -

Say hello to big Cooper! He is a three year old, ninety-nine pound, Labrador Retriever/Rottweiler Mix that we assessed today. Cooper is no stranger to the dog daycare scene. He attended a doggie daycare in Virginia regularly, a great thing for us!

Being extremely socialized and well versed in "Dog Speak", Cooper did amazingly well in our Big Roll Pack. It's almost as if he had been here in the past, this canine fit in that good.

Cooper has a very unique and impressive look, although this picture doesn't do him justice. He is all back with a hint of white on his chest. His body is inherently Rottweiler and his head is all Lab. It's pretty neat, we've never come across a dog with this appearance.

Mellow Mood Milo

Meet Milo! He is a nine month old, seventy-three pound, Gray & Black, Labradoodle that was assessed this morning. Milo is one of the sweetest dogs we have come across, a gentle giant if you will. Mom (Nancy), fell head-over-heels for him lol. He is a very calm dog that carries a happy yet mellow mood which becomes infectious. Apparently, Milo spent a lot of time on "The Farm" and didn't interact too much with anything other than horses! Although he didn't play today, he was quite comfortable around the other dogs. Towards the very end of his morning here, he almost played with Rottweiler Guy Gideon. Almost, meaning that there was butt to butt sniffing, tail wagging and spins/play-bows from Gideon. Milo is welcome back to The Fort anytime and we look forward to his return. He is a massively striking doodle that would have made one heck of a stud dog for a Labradoodle breeder... That actually was the plan for Milo but unfortunately he was struck with the dreaded Cryptorchidism, yikes!

One-eyed Marley!

Marley came in for his assessment this morning. He is a one year old, thirty pound, Labrador Retriever/Rottweiler(?) Mix. Marley was the perfect size and had the perfect play style for the Medium Roll. He went in and began to dance a jig with Gibson right away.

Marley is a rescue dog, one of his other unique features is that he only has one eye. I'll tell you what though, that doesn't slow this guy down one bit! Another one-eyed pooch that attends The Fort is Elvis from the Little Roll.

Nice job Marley, we'll see you soon!

Good Golly Gideon!

Today's assessment was Gideon. I won't deny it, he is a lot of dog... But you know what? He did pretty well for a big rambunctious guy! Gideon is a two year old, 110 pound, Rottweiler. He definitely passed his first day, Big Roll, debut. I bet we will be seeing more of this one.

The Grizzly Bear!

Ok, not quite like that haha...

This morning's assessment was Grizzly Bear. He is an eight year old, 120 pound, Rottweiler mix. "Grizz", being the big and lovable guy that he is, greeted his new young pack well. Like an Old Timer, he frolicked for a bit then sat back and enjoyed the show. Grizz seemed to be happy and content here at the fort, in the Big Roll. We hope to see more of him soon.

P.S. Lila's Mom Darcy told me about Dogtown this morning... You've probably heard about it, it's on the National Geographic channel (Michael Vick's dogs were rescued through this organization). What a wonderful group doing wondrous things!

Duke

Duke came into his first Fort Fido day ready to rock. He is a three month old Rottweiler/lab mix. Most large breed pups start in the Medium Roll. Duke on the other hand, is one of those young dogs that is a hard player. He needs to learn a thing or two from the pack, some "dog language" or manners so to speak. Due to his very physical play style, Duke was the perfect candidate to get with the big dogs early on.

The larger, more mature dogs do not take any guff from youngins. They will play well with a puppy but won't cut it any slack, firm and precise corrections are the norm. After awhile with his elders a young puppy will usually have better bite control and an understanding of fair play.
