It's time for Max!

Max is a striking, four year old, forty-two pound, three legged, Mixed Breed, that we assessed this morning. A rescue dog, Max has gotten lucky enough to now have a loving forever-home. Due to injury, Max had his front-left-leg removed this last September, but alas, he acts as thought he doesn't miss it, and it doesn't seem to slow him down at all! This healthy canine can still get moving with the best of them.

We had Max hangout in The Fort's Medium Roll, which proved to be a nice fit for him. He is a gentle dog that communicates quite well with other dogs. He is only interested in socializing nicely, and having fun. Although we didn't capture it on film, Max did play a good bit towards the end of his visit, with a handful of different pack members. We think we are going to see a lot more of Max involved in play, in future visits to Fort Fido. He is a very calm and well balanced dog, no pun intended. He should prove to be a great addition to our ranks, his Assessment, was a great way to cap off a busy week down here. Swell job Maxwell!

The Musher's Secret

Well, considering it's a snowy day out there I thought I'd mention a real swell product we've been carrying here at The Fort for years. Our buddy James, Vet Tech next door at Fircrest Veterinary Hospital, recommend we carry it. It's called Musher's Secret and I may have mentioned it a bit in the past. It is amazing, all-season, Paw Protection for dogs. We use it on our own dogs pads when they've been through some heavy activity. For instance, a long summer walk on hot asphalt or hiking trips. Occasionally we will have a new canine friend at Fort Fido that's a tenderfoot. If they play really hard and their pads can't handle the rubber-flooring, due to dryness, Musher's Secret saves the day by preventing cracked pads. It's made from 100% natural waxes, ideal for any dog be it working, hunting, mushing, service or pet. It's cool stuff folks, we and many others swear by it.

Shot Reminders

Surely you've seen one of these before, right? If not, you are really on it! :)

It's that time again... The First part of the month. This is always a busy time for us here at Fort Fido because it is time to update our shot records. Every month we remind folks that they have one more month to get their pets updated Vaccinations/Fecal Test Results in to us. If the month passes by and we haven't gotten an update, those individuals go on the dreaded, spooky, scary, "Black List"! Ahhh! Ok, I guess it's not that spooky or scary but your pet can not come back until we get the updated records. We don't mean to be a pain, we just like to keep all of our canine pals in tip top shape, safety and health. I know we can all agree on that! The easiest way to get us your updated records is to have your Vetinariran fax them to The Fort (253-460-0241).

At Fort Fido we require our doggy friends to be up to date with DHPP (Distemper Combo.), Rabies & Bordetella. Fecal Tests are also required, we ask that you get one when your pet's Bordetella Vacination is due. With that said, some may get a Fecal Test once a year, others twice a year. It all depends on how your Vet adminsters the Boretella Vaccine.

Old shot reminders stuck in leesh pockets or on badges, shot record dates hard to decihper, a lack of communication, etc... Mixups do happen! Please go easy on us if you feel we are wrong. We try are best to get the dates correct but it isn't always easy. Double check with your vet to confirm and have a conversation with us. There is never any need to get upset, we'll get everything squared away eventunally. :)

P.S. One more note, if you are on the "Black List" and show up for daycare or are just busy... We can take your pooch next door to Fircrest Vetinary Hospital and get them up to date for a small fee ($10) + the Vet's bill.

Vet Care Is Easy @ The Fort

To our valued Fort Fido customers:

All Pets coming to Fort Fido are required to have regular vaccinations and fecal tests. This is how we keep our Doggie Daycare healthy and disease free.

We understand that busy schedules can interfere with keeping your pet's vaccinations up-to-date. We can take your pet to the vet clinic next door for his or her vaccines, you won't have to pay two bills, we will give you an invoice of all shots given, which you pay straight to us. A handling fee of $10.00 will be applied for this service. Thanks for doing your part to keep The Fort a safe and healthy place for all dogs to visit!

Just a quick reminder, routine veterinary care is easy at Fort Fido. For $10 we can take your dog next door to Fircrest Veterinary Hospital and get whatever they need done for you. Shots, fecal tests, baths and nail trims are just a few of the services they offer. You do not need to be a Fircrest Vet customer to take advantage of this service.
