Happy Thanksgiving from everyone here at the Fort!

Hey Folks, Ryan here, wishing everyone a glorious Thanksgiving feast. May it be full of pie, ham and turkey, 'till your hearts delight. While its great to get together with the family and friends, a lot of people forget that our furry friends are along for the ride! smelling and seeing the beautiful bounty can be quite tempting. So reward your dog and let him/her take place in the eating debauchery as well! I have featured a few recipes here earlier in the month, but just in case you missed them, here are a couple that I'm definitely going to try tonight.

After Dinner Delight
Ingredients:
Leftover turkey
potatoes
squash
cranberry sauce (take it easy on this one, dogs don’t need a lot of sugar in their diets!)
any other vegetables (not onions!)
Directions:
Mix together all of the above, and drizzle lightly with a tablespoon or two of gravy.  Don’t give your dog more than one serving (approximately how much he’d eat anyway).  Make certain there are no bones in the meat.  Remember, while hot food tastes great to humans, dogs’ aren’t used to it.  Let his food cool thoroughly.

Next is a great article about sharing your dinner with your dogs, and gives you some knowledge on thanksgiving day food. The Goods and The Bads are listed there so that you can make your OWN specialty doggie dinner, remember to write down your recipe though, so you can do it again next year!

Again, enjoy your evening and remember! NO BONES FOR FIDO! :)

A way to GET thanks this holiday!

If you have faces like these watching your every move on thanksgiving, Try making some of this! It uses ingredients you've already got laying around the house, and it lets Fido become a part of the giving of thanks.

From all your pals here at Fort Fido, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving, and a great post-dinner food coma. Remember those sweat pants!

On a more serious note, I can not stress enough how thankful everyone here at Fort Fido is, to have such a wonderful group of dogs, owners and friends. Thank you for you continued support and we hope to celebrate more and more holidays with you at our side!

See you next week!

Happy Independence Day

Have a wonderful holiday today everybody. Happy 4th of July to you and yours, have a blast and be safe!

Today marks our record setting Overnight Boarding day (the last one was Thanksgiving Day). However, it isn't too late to drop off your pooch to spend the night with us. We are by no means full. Just a reminder, drop-offs end at 7:30PM.

Let that freedom ring, but keep all of yours fingers lol!

;)

P.S. Ah, you may find this 4th of July Pet Safety article useful today.

Softhearted Sam

Say hello to Sam! She is a four year old, eighty pound, Golden Retriever that had her assessment this morning. Like a typical Fort Fido Golden, Sam had a blast here. We started her off in our Big Dog Roll and that proved to be the perfect fit for Sam's play-style and temperament. She communicated with the other pack members graciously and had a good hardy run of play. Sam is welcome back to The Fort anytime, we look forward to seeing her regularly.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

A special thank you goes out to all of our amazing customers. We are truly thankful for your business and gallant support!

:)

-Grant
P.S. I'll leave you with some clips from today, one features Sam. Don't forget, we will be closed tomorrow and Friday. See you Saturday!

I may be a little late but...

A friend of Fort Fido's, Barbara Rivers, sent me in some great cold weather tips for pet owners. Thanks Barb! Check them out:

Keep Pets Safe During Stormy, Cold Weather

· Wind gusts and flying objects can injure or frighten pets. Take precautions
to keep your companion animals safe and secure.

· Dogs and cats may run away or get disoriented when fences blow down,
objects fall or fly in the wind or the noise of a big gust frightens them.

· Bring your pet inside during the storm and watch them when let outside.

· Check all fencing and lock all gates.

· Bring your pet inside when the temperature drops to 32 degrees with the
wind-chill factor.

· Dogs and cats can get frost bitten ears, nose, and feet if left outside.

· If your pet must be kept outside:
-Provide a dry, elevated dog house with clean dry bedding and a flap over the opening to keep
drafts out. A doghouse should allow your dog to comfortably sit and lay down but small enough
to hold in its body heat.
-Make sure the water bowl does not freeze. Heated water bowls are available.
-Outdoor pets need more calories to produce body heat.

· Keep antifreeze, salt and other household and garage poisons away from
pets.

· Make sure a cat has not crawled under your car seeking shelter and warmth
near the engine. Tap on hood before starting the engine.

· Large Animals need winter care too:
-Provide a wind break and/or shelter for horses and livestock to block wind and rain
-Make sure horses and other livestock have clean, dry bedding.
-Make sure water in trough does not freeze.

· Be sure you know important emergency numbers.

Just a reminder, we will be closed tomorrow, Thursday November 25th and Friday November 26th. We will be open for business this Saturday, November 27th.

Everyone out there have a marvelous Thanksgiving... We all have so much to be thankful for, good times! :)

Cheers,

-Grant
